Was pretty surprised to see Ballard still available; I think I may have landed a steal with him. Very happy with the improvements I think I've made to the Texans new 3-4 scheme thus far, with Quinn, Ras-I Dowling, and Ballard, who all fit the scheme well IMO. Was also surprised to see Bruce Carter fall all the way to round 3.
Finally Ballard comes off the board! I think he's a very forgettable player for one reason or another and may have just been mistakenly passed over by some. Great pick and awesome value there PPP10.
The way I see it if these players are there : one of Reed, Houston, Ayers, or Wilkerson, we dont trade down. If not we have to trade down ( Maybe pick Sheard), getting an extra 3rd ( hopefully a early to mid rounder) would be great and really get us depth and more players for Rex to mold, especially getting a safety. Does anyone think if we got something like (ex. Jets trade 1st for Browns 2nd and 3rd) we could maybe try to trade back into round 2? or do we not have enough?
By the way, I realized this morning there seems to be a CB dropoff after Aaron Williams. I had a tough time deciding between Ras-I Dowling, Curtis Brown, and Davon House. Now that they're all off the board, anyone have an opinion on who's the best of that trio? It was a tough call for me, since they all seemed pretty equal.
I believe Ras-I is very versatile and could play safety. Probably the best all around player of the 3. Brown is no slacker. IMO, House has the highest ceiling, but could be a risky pick. House has very good cover skills. BTW, I was going to let someone else make your pick if you didn't show. I would have picked Dowling. I think he would be a good fit in Houston' secondary.
IMO its Brown, House, then Dowling. Brown looked good at the combine to me, he has great instincts and can play both man and zone better then Dowling or House. House is better to me then Dowling because his physicality, game speed, and health. Dowling is more of a safety and really needs to prove he can stay healthy in the NFL. Not saying any of these players are bad those are just my opinions.
the draft is rolling pretty good now....better than it has all day. I didn't think I'd get to make my 3rd round selections tonight....but now it's a real possibility. Kudos, guys.
BTW WW, I like Patrick as a player for the Pats, very productive, fearless, and a excellent tackler although his off the field issues hurt his stock IMO. Im surprised actually with that pick you didnt go Safety or WR. With the Merriweather issues and WR issue. two in particular from a similar school.
If Dowling was coming off his Junior year, he would be my pick by far, but he had a very up and down Senior season. Out of the 3, it's House, Dowling, then Brown for me. I actually have several over Brown, some still on the board. He's a better athlete than CB IMO...
House may be the best athlete, but hasn't played the top competition. If he plays up to athletic ability he will be the best player...highest ceiling. Brown may be the safest pick. IMO, Dowling is the most versatile, his injury slowed his progress.
He is easily the best athlete out of the 3 IMO, which gives him one of the bigger ceilings, but he relies on it too much. I think there are a few CBs around him with better ball skills. He's not a bad CB by any means, I think he can be a solid #2....
IMO his ceiling is as a solid #2, which aint bad at all hahaa. I just think House and Dowling are boom or bust. There all very close ranking wise. I see what you mean by his tendency to over rely on his athleticism but I think an NFL coach and easily fix that, especially if he goes to a solid defensive team.
Would have liked Patrick the CB who went to WW85's Pats 1 pick before me but I like Burton as well and think he can be a potential starting CB alongside A. Smith for DET. And yeah this draft is flying back in rocket speed time. Great job guys.
It just all depends what a team wants, some like to take the B-or-B prospect in hopes of the best possible scenario, some like the safer pick because the lower percentage of busting. There is 1 guy I have fully over Brown that's still on the board, then one that's on a similar level...
Im liking the Burton pick, he has great man coverage skills and played great in a very pass happy conference. Should be a solid number two for the Lions.
