agreed MBGreen, I honestly feel that Minny is the one lock to take a QB in round 1. They have a good team as evidenced by their run to the title game a year ago, they need stable QB play and some other pieces to the puzzle and they could be right back where they were a year ago.
Smith was one of the other two prospects I was considering, but it again came down to early impact. Great prospect, but could Washington afford to wait on him? An average QB can look good throwing it to a talented WR, but a rookie QB(especially after Cam and Blaine) would struggle with Washington's current WR corp. It's like I'm patching a hole, then another appears. I'd hate to be in Bruce Allen's shoes
I thought about waiting to the 2nd round to select a QB....but there are too many QB needy teams this year.....and with Newton/Gabbert going in the top 10...I had to pull the trigger on Locker early. Joe Webb and Tarvaris Jackson aren't the answers in Minny.
Minny really got screwed in this mock, if Cam and Gabbert are gone by the time they're OTC I could really see them trading down (not possible in this draft of course).
nice pick by the Lions....they need to keep Stafford upright next year. If they fortify their oline and their secondary, they might make some noise in the NFC Norse division next season.
I just couldn't bring myself up to pulling the trigger on Locker, but I have a feeling Shanahan will, his mancrush and all. Seems like he would hurt more than help Washington at this point in time. Minnesota seems like the best fit, great running game to lean on and a plethora of skill players to throw to. They just have to keep him upright...
right it would have been ideal to wait after both Blaine and Cam were gone, but like you said you can't trade down, and you can't afford to wait till round 2 with so many QB needy teams... That said, I think Locker to minny is a disaster situation for Lockers fragile pysche. with the recent success of rookie QBs he will be expected to win, and win early. which is bad when he is at least a year away from being a starter, even with the cast Minny has.
I felt an OT was crucial for the Lions and, although a certain OLB might have been the BPA at a position of need, protecting Stafford is the most important thing the Lions have to do bar none. Two surgeries is plenty enough... they need to keep him healthy if they want to have a winning season. Especially in a division with Matthews, Peppers & Allen. Plus I think the best LT in this draft isn't far away from being the BPA at 13. Question is, is he the best LT in the draft? Time will tell...
Minny is kind of in the same position we were in back in 2008...lots of pieces in place on the offense, great defense, but no QB. QB should be their top priority in the draft. Like I said earlier, I could've waited to the 2nd round...but there's quite a few QB needy teams this offseason....and I have a hunch the the 1st/2nd round QB talent would've been diluted by the time the Vikes picked again.
dude....edit your post. Talking about players that haven't been drafted yet is against the rules...you know that.
I'm pretty in love with my pick. Ayers fits our system perfectly. He should provide an immediate impact to our poor rushing defense.
interesting pick for the Rams....I thought you would've went WR there......considering Bradford doesn't have much to throw to on that offense.
Really like the Lions pick. They really get screwed by missing out on two of the best corner prospects to come out in a while, but they desperately need to keep Stafford upright. I think to many mocks have them taking best OLB available.
