Thanks for updating. I don't see how Powell changes all that much for 2011. This guy is really a developmental pick in the sense he isn't going to see much playing time in 2011. Anyway, barring a disaster training camp he is going to be on the roster as the Jets carried 5 rb's last year.
How the hell is he in the same mold as Shonn Greene if he can't push the pile or tally yards after contact? And how is he a more polished receiver if he has "limited experience as a receiver out of the backfield"?
Shonn Green is a power runner as is Powell. Green couldn't catch a cold coming out of college. From the videos that I have watched, and other conflicting scouting reports, Powell seems to have some decent hands.
I see. I figured a power runner was a physical, between the tackles runner whom doesn't shy away from contact. Regardless of that, depth doesn't hurt and I hope he contributes.
Why are you asking him? Ask the guy who wrote that for NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/bilal-powell?id=2495328
Powell appears to be the same guy as Greene (tough runner, can break tackles, with enough quickness to get outside although my no means a burner). I did hear that he is a competent receiver out of the backfield. If LT is on the team, he's the 3rd down back. LT even acknowledged that at this point in his career he wants to be the best 3rd down back. I think you'll see the coaching staff do 2 things with our other 3 backs: 1- While Greene is clearly the feature back, if we're playing a big, strong, slow defense, I think you'll see more McKnight. 2- As for Greene/Powell splits, look for Schotty to play the hot hand. He's done this in the past. Don't forget, we're talking rookie RB, not rookie QB. If Powell is in shape when (if) camp starts (unlike Mcknight last year) there's no reason why he can't contribute immediately.
i think were going to use powell much the same way GB used james starks last year and the way we used shonn two seasons ago ... essentially red shirt him until hes up to game speed and then use his fresh legs late in the season
