Heap is an interesting option. But I assume someone will throw starter money at him and that will be that.
Baltimore did not draft Jimmy Smith to be their #1 corner from day 1. I'll eat my hat if their plan is to just give Jimmy Smith the job without having seen him even practice in months.
That's their plan for the long term. Smith is a top ten talent that slid because of character concerns. Signing Asomugha would be a good move for that franchise, but I don't see him going there. They'll have to start Josh Wilson and Jimmy Smith. I've seen a few reports that say the coaching staff really like Wilson and they want to retain him. ...sort of like Houston last season with Kareem Jackson. Their corner depth is so thin, that they'll have to throw a rookie out into the fire.
I dunno, this is a different year. It won't be like last year. Guys we may have gotten will probably return to their old team because its really hard to learn a new system in 5 weeks.
I really just don't see the Jets getting any big free agents that aren't their own right now. They're top priorities at this point need to be to lock up Harris long term and bring back Santonio and Braylon. With the craziness of this offseason and the things they are gonna have to do to get under the cap, I just can't see them going after and big free agents outside their own guys.
That I agree with. They has no system. I want Herzlich here for that reason. Laury gets cut, and he can be groomed as the ST ace.
Well yeah. This years big FAs are guys who played for the Jets. Its nice being one of the better teams in the league.
Why do you think Asomugha won't go to Baltimore? They cleared a ton of cap room today. Or at least retain Carr?
I don't know about that, losing in the Championship game for 2 years in a row does a lot to change the mentality of our front office, and it wasn't like we had an opportunity to go all out last year due to the rules that handicapped what we could do. We also have to remember that we right now are at the cusp and it isn't the time to get passive when you are so close.
I think this is basically the opposite of how I feel. We're a young team, with only Mangold, of our key members, being up there in years. Our best players still have many years ahead of them. This is the time to build patiently and ensure that we don't end up in cap hell in the future. Spend to the cap of course, but don't load up on top end guys with backloaded contracts that are going to handicap us in the future. Sanchez is 25, not 35. Teams like the Pats and the Colts need to "Go for it", insofar as their windows are closing. Our window is just opening. Being impatient now is a good way to have it close shut sooner rather than later. The teams that win the Super Bowl in the salary cap era are the ones that were built slowly around a young QB, using the draft and small FA pickups. I'd rather be the Patriots, Steelers, and Colts of the next decade than the Redskins or Cowboys. What's the flashiest FA signing any of those three guys ever made? Adalius Thomas? Adam Vinatieri?
