...just watched some of Rex's presser on NFLN. He mentioned #50 Garrett McIntyre as a potential pass rusher. Also brought up Jamaal Westerman as a situational pass rusher. Hopefully an in-house player can surprise. Mo Wilkerson is listed as the starting defensive end too. Ryan said he was drafted to make an immediate impact as a starter. He plans to use him as an interior lineman in four man fronts because he can "push the pocket" and create interior pass rush.
I don't think he was ever coming here anyway. I'm really happy Strickland is back. With Wilson and Strick, the nickel/dime spots are covered. Hell, you can put them next to each other - one blitzes, the other covers the slot WR. They can both blitz pretty well for CBs.
The Jets are currently in on-going negotiations with David Harris. If a deal gets done sooner than later, that should free up some cash to bring in a few more role players on both sides of the ball.
It would be great if an in house guy can step up like westerman, that would put us to the next level. I watched the press conference too and Rex seemed to be pretty high on BT so i dont know the likelihood of bringing in another OLB to fill his spot wether its by trade or free agency
What do you know about him? What are the chances of a player with no NFL snaps at 26 making any kind of impact?
From the CFL I think.. and you never know with these guys, there are diamonds in the rough, just ask Cam Wake.
People said the same thing about Cameron Wake. That worked out well for Miami. G-Mac was a beast at Fresno State. He was an undersized defensive tackle in college. Rex Ryan wasn't blowing smoke when he mentioned McIntyre's non-stop motor. The guy doesn't know how to quit.
If Rex can average one UDFA who makes an impact every other year, it'll alleviate the trading up and the FA salaries on the roster. That's a tough task, but it seems that this FO can find those gems after the draft is completed.
Somebody just said the Jets and Patriots are the Yankees/Red Sox of the NFL and the Jets are the Red Sox. Anyone else buying that logic?
Absolutely not. Because they are from the same cities doesn't mean they are the same rivalry. That's bullshit. Who's somebody? ESPN? ESPN has become a worthless network of shit.
Short term players, yes. Unfortunately, Harris' new deal slaps more money onto next year's strained payroll. I'd love to see them use some cash to frontload the first year and ease up the middle.
Haha yep. I can buy it from the aspect of the Red Sox and Yankees are the two best teams in the AL and are in the same division. Some could argue the Patriots and Jets are the two best teams in the AFC and in the same division.
