Unless we resign Jason Taylor to a 1 year deal the only guys that are available and fits our system as a pass rusher: Manny Lawson | Linebacker - Cardinals my go after Team: San Francisco 49ers Ht / Wt: 6'5' / 240 Age / DOB: (27) / 7/3/1984 College: North Carolina State Matt Roth | Defensive Lineman - Patriots may take a shot at Team: Cleveland Browns Ht / Wt: 6'4' / 275 Age / DOB: (28) / 10/14/1982 College: Iowa
I think you got FS and SS mixed up... that said: 1. I hope the CS is high on giving Lowery a shot at FS, I'd love to see him win the starting job. 2. Smith is not and never will be a starting FS. He's important for some of the subpackages we run and as a hybrid S/LB but no way he's starting material in a standard D. 3. Same for Ihedigbo. Great Blitzer and hits like a truck... useful in some formations (and on ST) but not a starter in a base D. 4. FS I wouldn't mind to give Lowery some competition: Pool, Jarrad Page, Jordan Babineaux, Renaldo Hill, Corey Lynch, Darren Sharper (but only after extensive medical examinations)... they all should be pretty cheap. Those guys would both be great and upgrades over BT. Roth is the better pass rusher and Lawson the more complete LB.
As in the post: "Smith is likely to take Pool's place in the starting lineup" Also, James Ihedigbo is being chased by Jets for depth.
I'm surprised there's been no chatter (that I've seen) on the board about going after Whitner and it hasn't been even remotely suggested in the "press." Why is that?
Whitner just turned 26 last week and has been a starter in the NFL the last five seasons. He is a tackling machine, reminds me of Victor Greene, one of my favorite Jets. I think we should give a call just to see what range he is seeking. Let him know money will be available when Harris get resigned and Sanchez get new contract on the 4th.
The #Giants have given Osi Umenyiora's agent permission to work out a trade for the 2-time Pro Bowl DE, sources told Sal Paolantonio. (ESPN Twitter)
michaelombardi Michael Lombardi Giants want a 1 for Osi, and a team will have to pay him a huge contract for the next four years-will be interesting to see if a team bites
Thank you for thinking of me but I was away so I couldn't post. I apologize to you and the board for ruining your day:grin:
I mean if he could stand up, play OLB, convince the Giants to trade him to us for a 5th and then take a tiny contract he could. But most of that, if not all, won't happen.
I was just watching NFL Network and they said that Cotchery is available for trade. I know if we move his salary it will give us more flexibility under the cap, but I think it's a bad move. Even with his bad back, he's always been a very good security blanket for mark. Not only that, it really destroys our depth at wide receiver. Let's be honest, we're not sure what Plax is going to do, or if he can bring what he use to have.
Jets are willing to trade Cotchery... Michael Lombardi Yes confirmed from 2 NFL team sources, the Jets are willing to trade WR--Jerrico Cotchery-possiblely to free up cap space and sign other FAs
