That would be on par with the Rangers trading Brian Leetch (Justified, he was old and not producing) Difference is Reyes is still a very good player.. I don't think it will happen.
Did you really think that with Sandy Alderson at the helm that the Mets were going to make a run for it this year? Come on. He's making low risk mid-high reward signings, while the kids develop in the minors. Patience is a must with this plan.
It's time to move on with Reyes. Guy either cant stay healthy or gets into two month long slumps at the worst time. He's terribly overrated. We need to blow up this piece of shit outside of afew pieces. Purge the banana boat, the chokers and the overwhelming stench left from Omar.
This year is going to be a lost season. It'll be like the 2009-2010 Knicks. Alderson is a lot like Donnie Walsh. Guy who's been around for a long time and knows the game and how to build a team. It'll be interesting to see what we do with Beltran, Castillo, k rod and oliver Perez coming off the books. That's 50 mil alone right there. Enough to get an elite staring pitcher, another big bat and a few other guys
Our farm system sucks, but this isn't oakland, he has more resources than he did before. My guess is this. He'll work at a base payroll, probably around 130 million next year (it's at 140-150 mil right now and he wants it to be lower). If attendance and other direct revenues go up, so will the payroll. He's a numbers guy, so he'll target specific types of player to meet his criteria. OBP and Slugging percentage seem to be a priority for him. I expect a lot of low risk/high reward transactions...players coming off injury, etc. I also expect he won't overpay for players next year either just for the sake of making a move. Even if pujols were to become a FA, i don't think we'd throw an a-rod contract at him. same with prince fielder in the 20 mil range The farm system will be a big part of it, and I wouldn't be surprised if beltran or reyes got unloaded to a contender for prospects.
I don't expect much. But, Rodrigo Lopez?? Dude sucks donkey dick. Thank god he got picked up by someone else that I saw yesterday. I'd rather Gee or even Misch pitch then watch that tub of goo climb up on the mound.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I want Reyes to stay, and I think trading him would be a huge mistake. People seem to forget, because it seems as though he's been here for a decade already (he almost has) but he's still young. He can hit, run, field, etc., when he's on, he's one of the best players in league. I know his maturity level can be put into question, but I gotta think the losing has to be getting to players like him and Wright. I think he can have a great season this year. The season pretty much rests on guys like Bay and Beltran. My only problem is the pitching, and with Johan out, I can't see them as more than a .500 team.
He's getting older and he's been hurt a fair amount the last few years. This team is not built to win over the next few seasons, that's not how Sandy works. He builds from the bottom up. I'd probly say get rid of Reyes while he is still remotly productive and get the most you can in high level prospects, because by the time most fans are ready to trade him, his value will be highly diminished, and all you'll have to show for it is a few seasons of sub .500 baseball.
I expect his moves this offseason are part of his plan. Young, capuano, Etc. The problem I have is he really did nothing to improve our starting rotation, or to get rid of Perez and Castillo. Saying that they are competing for jobs and then not bringing in people who can compete is just BS. I really do not know what to expect from our FO because rather than building the Farm like I expected us to do (especially after the philly's got Lee). he stayed pat and people like Pagan, reyes, and beltron. He should be taking a longer term view with the team to build for when the Philly's age catches up with them in a few years. Their rotation alone should win them the east for the next 3 to 4 years. So the Mets need to take a page from Boston and build up arms in their farm system.
Waiting till the deadline in a season like this for the Mets is a good plan. Maximize what you get from a desperate contender.
i want reyes to stay. i actually feel good about this team reyes pagan wright beltran bay davis thole tejada pelfrey neise dickey young capuanno
The Pink Pufters should win at least 105 games in the regular season. There is a Wild Card race, though. The Mets might be able to hang around in that for a while.
From MLBtraderumors.com: Mark Cuban tells Newsday's Barbara Barker that after failed attempts to buy the Cubs and Rangers, he won't pursue another baseball ownership opportunity unless he's approached. Cuban thinks the Mets are "a great opportunity, but I'm not going to call their investment banker." Cuban also said it's "very unlikely" he would settle for a minority share in a franchise unless he was given the first chance at buying a majority share in the future. Wouldn't mind Cuban owning this team one bit.
Me too! He would be great from a fans perspective. Sort of makes me wish Piccard gets his billion from the Wilpons. Then they would have to sell the team and SNY.
yes we can compete just cant overtake. but we could challenge for a wild card. hey if our lineup produces right out the gate....
