Dontay Moch, 3-4 OLB, Nevada 2009 WAC Defensive Player of the Year Moch, who's one of the most underrated pass rushers in the entire country, has been all over the WAC message board that I post on. I've been high on him for a while, but I had no idea he was this freakishly athletic: This kid just ran a 4.19 in the 40 yard dash at Nevada's Junior Pro Day. Moch's not just a workout warrior either...take a look at his stats. 2008: 50 total tackles, 17.5 TFLs, and 11.5 sacks. 2009: 61 total tackles, 20 TFLs, and 6.5 sacks. If Moch stays healthy, the sky's the limit. If he continues to perform at this level, he'll most definitely shoot into the first round. Here's a little bit of the article about Moch's freakish performance...
I saw that time by Moch last week and really didn't know how to handle it. I can't wait to see some Nevada football next year.
I saw it too, but I thought it was complete bullshit until tonight. As for Nevada football, they are more than likely going to destroy Fresno State again this year.
RB Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech For my money, the best running back prospect in college football. Fast, strong, angry runner, the kid has zero weaknesses. Absolutely none. He plays a lot like DeAngelo Williams, who had the same kind of power despite not being the biggest back in the world, like Ryan. The thing I love most about him is how confident he is when he runs. If he's trying to beat you to a spot, it means he already knows he's going to win, and he cuts in the open field so smoothly he barely loses any speed. He should be a top ten pick, because he's definitely a top ten prospect. Right now, I think I might sneak him in my top 5. And some may say he won't go because he's only a RS Soph, but something, maybe his getting "superstar" tattooed across his chest, tells me this kid isn't going to wait. It should be interesting to see how they use him with Darren Evans coming back. Evans is actually a pretty good prospect in his own right.
Height: 6-6. Weight: 270, 2009....11.5 TFL and eight sacks. Known for blocking kicks and being disruptive in the backfield. A terror off the edge pass rusher, very quick initial first step. Romeus is probably best suited for an NFL team that plays the 4-3. Some feel Romeus might convert to a 3-4 DE, but it would take away his great pass rushing ability. Similar size to Corey Wootton ..but much better upside and athlete. Could have declared for 2010's drafted, but decided against it at the last minute. Only 1 year of High School Football. A solid Rd 1 pick and a lock for the TOP 10 in 2011 with another good season. I like to see a little more consistent play, does disappear at some points in the game. Outstanding physical player with excellent quickness.[/QUOTE] ding ding ding....that is the guy to get if you ask me....
Romeus is a big guy, but I'm not so sure he'll be a 3-4 lineman. I think he'll be a hell of a player in the NFL as a pass rusher...in the 4-3. If you want to look at some potential 34 ends that will be available in 2011, these are probably the top five that will be available. Ohio State's Cameron Heyward Alabama's Marcell Dareus Iowa's Adrian Clayborn UNC's Marvin Austin Miami's Allen Bailey
Guaranteed that Dareus and Heyward will be gone by the time we pick and with solid seasons theres a good chance Clayborn and Austin would probably be taken as well. Bailey is a Rd 2 prospect IMO he's just way too inconsistent can disappear as quickly as he shows his flashes of brilliance. Hopefully we can pray that Clayborn has a Kyle Wilson type fall on draft day and we get another steal in the making.
Some people just go crazy with converting guys to the 34 based only on size. Guys like Romeus are simply best off in 43s as defensive ends. Some guys are just physical freaks with great size and athleticism, they should play the position that lets them use both to excel. He'd be so severely limited as a passrusher in a 34 on the line that he could never live up to his value as a top 15 pick.
I agree that Heyward and Dareus will be gone before the Jets are on the clock. I was simply just listing the top 34 ends. You can't knock Allen Bailey for being inconsistent and then claim that Marvin Austin is first rounder. Both of these guys are freakish athletes that have done virtually nothing at the college level. In my opinion, Austin will have a breakout year while playing in a Tar Heel defense that should be one of the best in the country...but he hasn't done anything yet. Bailey is also under a lot of pressure to step the hell up and play to his potential. Clayborn's had a few off the field issues that could cause him to slide quite a bit.
Let's not forget about Robert Quinn. IMO, he's going to be the best 4-3 DE in this draft and could be a solid top 5 player. Quinn is an unbelievable talent and a great kid that is focused to be the best!!! I have a ton of respect for Quinn...the guy was on death's door battling a Brain Tumor while in High School. You'll see alot of stories of Quinn's illness as we approach draft time next April. Quinn is my #1 rated prospect, as of now.
I know you were just listing them off.... but for those not in the know at all I was just letting them know that barring a miracle those 2 will not be NYJ. I should've specified a little more into my statement. The reason I believe Austin will be a 1st rounder is b/c of the reason you listed. That UNC DEF is soooo stacked that he should put up incredible numbers due to the amount of talent on the team. Bailey has a good DEF behind him but is the guy that OC will game plan for hard because he's the guy with the most talent and potential. Austin is not that guy on UNC and due to that fact he should be able to unleash his inner monster. I do agree with you on your points... your just much better at showing your reasoning behind them than I am.
Greg Jones, ILB, Michigan State One of the best linebackers "ever" from the Big Ten. I know it's a bold statement, but I truly believe Jones is a special player. His career-high 154 tackles in 2009 ranked third in the nation. Would have been a Rd 1 pick if he declared in 2010. Very dedicated to the Spartan program. Jones is undersized (6"1", 225) but plays with a non-stop motor and is gym rat and film junkie. Best suited to play in a 4-3, can get engulfed by bigger O-lineman. Reminds me of Jonathan Vilma. Ohio Native from Archbishop Moeller in Cincy, a powerhouse football program. From Michigan State's Site: • 2009 CONSENSUS FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN • 2009 BIG TEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (MEDIA) • RANKED TOP PLAYER IN THE BIG TEN (COLLEGEFOOTBALLNEWS.COM) • LINEBACKER OF THE YEAR (COLLEGE FOOTBALL PERFORMANCE AWARDS) • 2009 FIRST-TEAM ALL-BIG TEN (COACHES AND MEDIA) • RANKED THIRD IN THE NATION WITH 154 TACKLES IN 2009 • RANKS EIGHTH IN MSU HISTORY WITH 359 CAREER TACKLES • ENTERS 2010 SECOND AMONG FBS LEADERS IN TACKLES (359) AND TACKLES PER GAME (9.2)
Thats some resume, I really like Jones as a prospect as well. What I like about him is that he seems like a very safe pick in that based on his accomplishments at Michigan State and the position he plays, he looks like he is going to step into a team and just kick ass
I believe Jones would be a good fit with the NY Giants. The Giants really didn't address their MLB position last April. Gerris Wilkinson and Jonathan Goff are good, but Jones has pro bowl potential.
