Injuries didn't help, but they aren't the cause. They need to be able to beat the fucking Orioles. This is 85% on the players and 15% on Epstein for failing to build enough starting pitching depth. Oh well, football and hockey season.
Dude, stop making excuses. Buchholz and Matsuzaka were the only injuries that really hurt considering the year Youkilis was having. Lackey sucks, the lack of depth for the rotation was exposed, and the two aces pitched like shit in September. End of story.
I love how happy that hippie is with the long hair. Thank you Baltimore, thank you Cardinals (ugh!)...for taking biggest choke ever away from my Mets. Yeh, those are the things I have to root for now LOL.
Why would he get fired? He didn't build the team with no depth? He's a great manager, probably one of the best in the game today but this can't be blamed on him. Only an idiot like Dan Shauneghsy would call for his head.
I like how you state lack of depth when you mention the two pitching injuries. You mean teams don't usually have 7th and 8th starters who knew..... Pitching does really suck when your missing two pitchers already you end up losing a few more for a few starts so they end up having to start guys who should of been playing in the minors. We had 10 pitchers go at least 4 starts vs. Yankees 6 and Tampa's 7. I don't think many teams if any can go 10 deep when it comes to starters. Youk was on pace for 100+ RBIs but I guess he just sucks. He's still better than Lowrie. You can not say that injuries didn't affect this team with how much they sucked. I mean both the Ray and Yanks has 6 starters play 130+ games compared to the Sox's 4. Did they suck, yes they did but injuries can't be overlooked.
Actually, most teams DO use at least 7 or 8 starters. Usually more like 10 or 11. Epstein talked about it himself in spring training. His quote was something to the effect of "We have about 7 guys to start right now, usually you need about 10 or 11. I don't know where those starts are going to come from." He knew it was an issue in the spring and did very little to address it. Matsuzaka went down in what, May at the latest? He had plenty of time to bring someone in and failed to do so. Youkilis wasn't that big a deal. He wasn't having a great year anyway, and he wasn't the guy carying the offense. They lost because of pitching, not hiting.
