Tim Wakefield is my second favorite pitcher of all time behind Pedro, but this is absolutely insane. First, I'd rather eat my own vomit, shit it out, and eat it again than see John Lackey over Bedard. Bedard has actually pitched pretty well, and Lackey is a fucking nightmare. Secondly, Wakefield has great value to a team in the regular season, but if you are relying on him in the playoffs you probably aren't going very far.
Yeah Bedard if healthy will most definetly be the team's 4th starter if Buchholz is back. Wake, Miller and Lackey can share garbage innings or provide long relief if necessary.
Well that wouldn't be very healthy. Erik Bedard is maddening. Not Daisuke-like maddening. Sort of the opposite. He pitches just well enough to make you feel like you had a chance to win the game that you just lost. Let's be realistic - we're most likely looking at choosing two of Lackey, Bedard or Wake in a playoff rotation. Lackey of June isn't Lackey of August and neither of them are anyone's first choice for anything. I think 60/40 most people would probably pick Erik Bedard over Lackey right now. I wouldn't. They'll both give you 5-6 innings. Lackey has playoff experience. As does Wakefield. I could change my mind, but if Buchholz does make it back, Lackey is still my first option at number four. Probably Tito's too. Just sayin'. You'll need to prepare yourself.
Bedard is the third starter, IMO, behind Beckett and Lester. Lackey is a trainwreck but I think he has to be 4th. I don't think Wakefield starts a playoff game barring an emergency situation.
So Bedard bothers you because he gives the team a chance to win? This is just a bizarre statement. In his 4 starts so far, he's looked great. His worst start so far was the other night where he gave up 4 runs in 6 innings against a top 3 offense in baseball, and really only made one bad pitch. What's maddening is that the rest of the team hasn't capitalized on the pretty good outings he's been turning in. I agree that two of those three will be in the rotation, but I list them Bedard, Lackey, Wakefield. And Lackey only goes if absolutely necessary.
Beckett throwing way too many pitches tonight. Finally lost his no hitter on a home run by Mike Napoli with 2 outs in the 4th. 6-1 Boston
Neither would be cutting one's self. Gosh... if it's between watching a Sox fan cut himself or eating his own vomit and shit... man... that's tough... can't it be both?
I remember not too long ago a reason for optimism with this starting rotation. Now, I get to choose between a sharp, stabbing pain and a dull, throbbing one.
You must have missed all his starts then. They have been in every game he's pitched with a shot to win in the late innings. His WORST start so far was 4 runs in 6 innings. That is absolutely giving the team a chance to win. Besides, if you always feel that they "could have won the game they just lost" doesn't that by definition mean he gave them a chance to win?
No no. That was the ironic, but accurate, way of describing exactly what happens when he starts - six innings of gritty pitching, ending in a loss.
So you got this from four starts and a grand total of 26 innings? Besides the fact that he left the game tied in the first two starts. That's a bit crazy.
Adrian Gonzalez has homered on the last three pitches to him. He's also batting .585 in Andrew Miller's starts.
im going to the game on the 13th of sept. if i have to see timmy pitch again im leavin the game. he is such a slooow pitcher. booo timmy. and yes i do like the sox. i just dislike timmy.
A scrappy and overachieving injury to a foot that plays the game the right way is what you meant to say.
Did you know that ankle shut out the Yankees in Game 6 of the 2003 World Series? That ankle is a warrior that knows how to compete.
