Giambi becomes the second oldest player in MLB history to hit three homers in a game, behind only Stan the Man.

    No comments on Posey?

The hit wasn't dirty, but it was also rather unnecessary, considering Posey wasn't blocking the plate.

Maybe there should be a rule that you actually have to slide towards the base/plate instead of trying to maul people for fun. If the catcher is in the basepath, sure, you gotta run him over, but Posey wasn't.

I was pissed. Totally unnecassary hit, cock sucker should get a suspension. It was a pointless, purposeful injury.

It was completely necessary. If you weren't a Giants fan, you'd see this with clear eyes.

The game was tied and in extras. Cousins was trying to win the game and Posey was trying to prevent him from scoring.

If the catcher's in your way, you run through him. That's how a play like that works. I don't give a damn if Posey missed the ball, there's no way Cousins could judge something like that. Posey turned and blocked the plate.

...and he definitely didn't hurt Posey on purpose.

Posey wasn't in the baseline. He left Cousins a path to the plate.

It was a standard hit, but pretty strange to run over a catcher not in the baseline.

No, he didn't. The ball got there a split-second before Cousins did. Posey missed the throw and turned to block the plate anyway.

There's no possible way Cousins could have known if Posey had the ball or not. If the catcher's near the plate and it's a close play, truck him.

I've watched the play over and over again, and Posey was not in the baseline.

So have I. He turned to block the plate. It wasn't an unnecessary hit.

The point is that Posey was not in the baseline.

If the catcher is blocking you off, you have to go into him. In this case, Posey was positioned in front of home plate and then turned as the runner was coming in. He was still not in the baseline.

Cousins was clearly trying to knock the ball loose...Posey just didn't field the ball cleanly.

If Cousins runs right by Posey and he fields the ball, the tag can be made and the game would still be tied.

Posey turned like he was making a tag and Cousins ran through him.

When you are trying to knock a ball loose, you're going for the arms, NOT where Cousins went, which was inside shoulder/head area.

If this is his way of trying to "knock the ball loose", he has obviously never been taught the right way and has no business attempting it, if he's going to injure people.

I see nothing wrong with the Posey collision either. I blame the cleats being too good.

That's just like any other collision except he had that one foot planted too deep and he wasn't ready for the hit. I just hope that the reports of him not being able to catch again because of the injury are false. I know those were the early reports, it would just suck because he has such a bright future.

SF needs to put him at first base. His career will last longer.
