Wow, is Gruden that stupid? "You can tell it's a running play because Drew Brees is running the clock down." No, he's running the clock down because the Saints have the ball and have the lead. It probably was going to be a run for that reason (as it was), not because they were running the clock down.
I could rip this to shreds right now, but I really am not in the mood. So I'll say this - he's light years ahead of Mark Sanchez. And there is one QB I wanted over Mark - Matty Ice. He's not overrated.
first they say he should run the ball and make sure the clock keeps rolling, and now they're saying you gotta love Payton throwing it. Saints win. Game over. They're in the playoffs.
Completely agree. It was probably going to be a run play, but regardless of whether they were running or throwing, obviously the Saints were going to run the clock. It's hard to decide which have been worse this season: referees or announcers.
It was exciting in that it was close, but I thought it was pretty poorly played and rather sloppy all around.
Ugh. Only 11 points for Roddy White. I have to hope that Vick flops tomorrow. I have a 33.9 point cushion.
It's definitely referees, simply because of expectations - many announcers have been this bad for the 45 years I've been watching football, but the officials have never been anywhere near this bad in my memory.
The rules of what can and can't be challenged are ridiculous. So many loopholes in the system when it comes to challenges.
The Giants also have to keep an eye on the Buccaneers game. It's not likely, but the Packers and Giants could both lose and the Bucs could win. I don't believe the Bucs can get in via any tie-breakers, though. I think a three-way Bucs-Giants-Packers tie would go to the Packers based on strength of victory. If I'm still snowed in tomorrow, I'll check on this for sure if anyone wants me to do so.
^^^ I don't understand why the booth didn't stop play to look at it. To me, it was clearly something that should have been reviewed. At first it looked like he might've had the first down. Upon a closer look, he was a full yard short. Why they didn't look at it is beyond me.
The Bucs game doesn't affect the Giants unless they tie and Green Bay loses or ties. Here are the possibilities: GB win - GB is in GB tie, NYG loss or tie, TB loss or tie - GB is in GB loss, NYG loss, TB loss - GB is in GB loss or tie, NYG win - NYG is in GB loss, NYG tie, TB loss or tie - NYG is in GB loss or tie, NYG loss or tie, TB win - TB is in GB loss, NYG loss, TB tie - TB is in The only way a team can get in with a loss is if all three lose (then it's Green Bay).
Almost, but not quite - they also get in with a win with any combination of losses or ties for Green Bay and the Giants. Highly unlikely to involve ties, of course, but not impossible.
