Really hoping Cano gets this one , itd just be great for the kid but Hamiltons team made it to the WS and has been a beast. Itll be a close one.
Playoffs don't factor into the award, with the exception that the voters know when they cast their ballots whether that player's team made it or not. Cano was by far the best player on the Yankees this year. I don't think he was the most valuable player though. I would argue that the Yankees could have won the wild card without Cano's performance, but I think you could legitimately argue that Texas would have missed the playoffs without Hamilton, and that's why he gets the award.
Cano won't win, but he absolutly has a case, I don't think the NYY would have made the playoffs without him. Hamilton should and will win. He carried the Rangers for 90% of the season. Votto won the NL MVP in a landslide, only 1 1st place vote went to Pujols, and it was probly by a local St. Louis guy.
I absolutely think Cano has an argument, but there's no way he was as valuable to the Yankees as Hamilton was to Texas. The Yankees won the wild card in cruise control for the last month of the year. I think they'd have been fine even without Cano's performance (given that Cano still played at least reasonable ball.) Hamilton, as you said, carried his team almost all year.
Bautista had a great hitting year, but I can't understand Cabrera getting those votes.... Grats to Hamilton, nonetheless.
Cabrera had a great year as well, even though he and the Tigers tailed off at the end. His April-July was crazy good, and he also had a bunch of game winning hits. I certainly would say he was a lot more deserving than Bautista.
I didn't mean to say Bautista deserved it more, just having a great first half of the year shouldn't justify MVP recognition.
Exactly, I mean look at Ubaldo Jimenez's Cy Young considerations from April-July til now, whole different story.
As I said earlier in the day, Hamilton should and did win it. Bautista getting a first place vote while Cano got none is utterly ridiculous though. This is why sportswriters disgust me, and why I firmly believe players and managers should do all awards voting. FTR, I might have given Cabrera some consideration, but not above Cano. The thing with Bautista is, where would his team have been without him at all? Surely 4th place in the AL East. Now where was his team with him? 4th place in the AL East. MVP consideration? Really? Honestly, when you look at Cabrera, would the Tigers have really finished lower than third place without him too? The right guy won, but otherwise, this vote was a sham.
And Japan thought it was a good idea to bomb Pearl Harbor. Just because something happens doesn't make it right or smart.
