I listened to Francessa (and sports radio in general) after that Super Bowl and he didn't once claim the Giants won because they were the better team. He may have said they were "the better team that day" but that was as far as he went in that direction. The Giants were a better team than Buffalo in the wide-right field goal miss. They won the game with a backup QB. If Simms played in that game it wouldn't have even been close.
If it was possible to shit through a phone, I would call his show. Until then, I have no reason to listen to it.
Rex Ryan claimed they were the best team in the NFL and Cromartie tweeted about them being the Miami Heat of the NFL. It also may have been Sanchez who said he couldn't believe the talent on the roster. Self-praise isn't an issue normally, but when you combine that with Ryan's history of confidence/arrogance & his penchant for self-promotion, it isn't hard to see how one could interpret this as smack-talk.
That's difficult to say considering that Hostetler played well in the Super Bowl. Also, the Bills defeated the Giants in Giants Stadium that season. Many people, myself included, consider the Bills to have been the best team in the league that year. The other two candidates were the 49ers and Giants.
Except Ryan goes out of his way to expound upon the confidence he has in his team and no other coach in the league does this like he does. It's "bad table manners" for a coach and it rubs some people the wrong way. What don't you get about it? I don't care if you disagree with it, that's kind of the way things are. I personally find it entertaining, but I can definitely see other coaches not loving it.
Dude, have you noticed the vacuum in the infomercial market these days? Between Billy Mays OD'ing on coke and Vince getting beaten to hell by a Miami hooker, it's just damned discouraging. I just can't trust a mop sold by a guy named Anthony Sullivan. But in other news, I'll say it again - I don't get why people get all uptight about what a guy like Mike Francesa does or says. That's a fat lot of energy you could spend slap chopping something.
please man, you've made some reasonable points here, but if the Bills and Giants played 10 times that year, the Bills win 9 times, regardless of who was playing QB. The Giants executed perfectly in every aspect, as perfectly as they could have hoped, and still in reality should have lost. I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing every Bills game that year going to school up in Western NY.....and jumped on the Giant bandwagon as well. That Bills team to me was the greatest team to not win the Super Bowl, right up there with what you guys did to the Pats as well. I tip my hat to your team for those wins, but let's not go overboard with the Giants winning easily if Simms played
*UPDATE* Cowcessa says Sanchez is "brittle". Nothing to substantiate this claim, but hey if fatso said it, it must be true.
That isn't talking smack. Saying that you have high expectations for your team isn't talking smack at all. Ryan routinely praises opposing coaches and players and other teams. People conveniently ignore that fact. He doesn't talk smack - that tag is BS. If you are saying he is confident - guilty as charged - and so are many many other coaches in this league.
The Giants didn't win with a backup QB, maybe he was Simm's backup but it's not like Simms got hurt in the 1st quarter and Hos won that game. He was the QB for how many games prior to the SB? Hos played the final 2 1/2 regular season games and then the 2 playoff games prior to the SB. Plus that game was more Otis Anderson then Hostetler. The correct thing to say would be the Giants were much better prepared for that game then Buffalo. While the Giants were taking care of business the Bills were out partying in Tampa. (the same mistakes they made in Pasadena) Under Parcells there is no way that was gonna happen with the Giants.
True. But at the same time, imho Hostetler did mightily contribute to that win in a gutsy, 'damage-control' sense when he got flattened by Bruce Smith around his own goal line and yet somehow kept possession of the ball that was within a whisker of being fumbled which would've resulted in a Bills TD; trading a 2-pt. safety instead of "6" in a game NYG would eventually win by a point. Imo, Bills WR's also got alligator arms in the 2nd half fearing the Jints DBs laying the wood on them. Back on topic: Francesa less than an hour ago commenting on the Jet announcement that Revis would start: "so Revis, with that 'hammy' issue...IF there really was a hammy issue will start." Sheesh, this guy's getting psycho.
That was in response to the people who think Ryan, Revis, and the Jets made up the hamstring problem for gamesmanship purposes.
