Pats fans, Giant fans who want to bag on the Jets, and SOJF always get a fast track to on-air with Fatty.
Here's the mink. LOL. Although Mike never backs down from a good 'ole argument. You just get hung up on with the touchscreen.
I'm not a Fatty fan, but I've got to give him a little credit for yesterday afternoon's show. I was driving home from LBI and had The Fan on from about 3PM to 4:30. He properly dismissed one caller's Woodhead call when the guy asked if Mike thought the Jets should have kept him. "And do what wit him?" he said. "Day-uh was no place for Woodhead on da team. What do you want to do wit him? Day alweady have Gween and Tomlinson. And he fits betta wit the Pats... wit day-uh total offense." On the head to head matchup on Monday night, he came right out and said that he thought the Jets had a "better team." Better personnel. More talent. He fell short of predicting a win with either team, but said "on paper" the Jets look like the better team. But with the following caveat, which he repeated several times: with Brady and Belichick in the equation, all bets are off the table (I'm paraphrasing). He called the Pats defense "tewwible," and looked up the stats, which show that the Pats are ranked low in yards given up, scores against, number of completed passes and rushing yards. "Da Jets should be able to scaw on dem," he said. There is not much talent, according to him, on the Pats defense. They are average players, according to him. But he also pointed out that offensively, Brady will "tear up da middle wit doze slants and day-uh TEs, and da Jets linebackuz ahh not gettin' it done." He szid Woodhead is "hodd to tackle becawze he's so small and he'll definitely move da chains." He reiterated over and over that even though the Pats are not the same team they've been, the biggest difference between them is still the experience factor of the QB and the HC. "And it's the culcha day-uh. Da winning culcha. Doze guys expect to win. Day get it done wit Brady and Belichick." One recurring theme or question from more than several callers was how to handle the Pats' offense, given that Fatty was admitting that their defense was suspect and that the Jets should be able to score. One guy wanted to know, "Mike, how should the Jets handle Brady? Just get in his face on every play, or do you think they should go man-to-man and make him pass." Mike told him and others that the jets do not have a pas rush per se, that they can't bring pressure on Brady without sending the house, so his answer is that the Jets will have to mix it up on every play. Show Brady something different and unexpected on every single down. Blitz on 1st down, zone coverage, move people around, look different on every drive and every down. "Day-uh is no one thing dat the Jets should do... do all kinds of tings." He also knocked Schottenheimer to some extent, but not terribly. He described Schotty as an OC with a very "fertile mind." "He's good at bwinging out da diffewent packages and plays and mixing it up." What he did criticize him for is for not going with "what works" once he discovers it. His "fertile mind" keeps him changing plays and not sticking to the one thing that looks like it is working. Other coaches (Norm Turner, for example) will find a weakness and keep on exploiting it until you make him stop or he wins the game. "If da slant worked good against da Bengals, why would you want to stop? He doesn't keep on goin' wit somethin' when it works." I thought his insight was pretty good about this game and spot on (hate to admit it). Defensively, we have to really mix it up on Brady. He's going to score, it's just a matter of how many times. Make him work for it and don't make it easy. He can be rattled if we show him all sorts of different looks and coverages. And the offense has to step up and move the chains and stay on the field to keep Brady off the field. Our offense has to score early and often, period. I have to admit that Francesa painted a pretty accurate picture of what this game will shape up to be without knocking the Jets too badly. He was as encouraging and "Jet friendly" as I've heard him in a long time. He's probably hedging his bets against the Jets in the event that the Jets win. The overall tone of the Jets fans calling in was one of guarded optimism. The average caller did not exhibit an overabundance of confidence and seemed to be looking for answers from Mike as to how the Jets can beat them. Mike handled it pretty well, for a change, IMO.
He' afraid the Jets will win, in fact deep down, he knows we will win and he will dealing with Jets fans all through January. He's a mean spirited douche bag, but he ain't dumb. Nothing he said today has changed my mind about him and his show. He knows we match up well and will beat them by 10 to 14 points so he can't go off on the Jets and put himself out there. He's what I call a PUSSY
Good post. It sounds like he was being fair. Maybe he's realizing that his hope of a Rex Ryan-loses-the-team-Sanchez-is-a-bust-and-the-only-way-to-win-in-NY-is-the-Parcells-Coughlin-way isn't going to materialize.
lol, trying to read "Francesa talk" is harder than actually hearing it. There are times I stare at words for a few seconds trying to figure out the English translation.
Wtf i turn it on and he's talking to someone about trains and amtrak and metro north. is this even a sports talk show anymore?
So apparently Francessa has switched his shows format from sports radio to political talk radio... Oh it's 3:30 and the sports talk have just now begun.
fatty has the governor on the show right now...paterson trying to show he knows about sports and francesa sounding so effin bored! haha what a joke show.
he has on the outgoing lame duck guv to talk about commuter rail issues? LOL. Yikes mikey is really scraping the barrel.
It's double blowhard Wednesday, everybody! Mike Francesser let that blind governor co-host the show today.
I thought Patterson was great. He has a photographic memory and is a big sports fan. Switched to the Jets when Namath came to town, how bad could he be? Good sense of humor too. 5 hours worth is pushing it though...
FTR, I believe none of the Jets players want to go on his show. And I really really want to believe that Woody Johnson has barred them from going on his show. Apparently the Jets players don't go on any of WFAN's night hosts (after Fatty); they're always on the morning/midday shows. Mayhaps there's some sort of contract stipulation stating that once The Michael Kay Show starts, the players/coaches are prohibited from being on Tank's show, since TMKS and Francesa are the 'premier' shows on their respective stations. I don't know, I'm trying to find the common denominator. Jets players have called into these 1050 shows: The Herd (10AM-1PM) Ruocco & Lundberg (10AM-11AM) McDonald & Tierney (1PM-3PM) TMKS (3PM-?6PM) Football Nightly (or whatever it's called with Bonnie Bernstein and Buttle) and these WFAN shows: Boomer & Carton (6AM-10AM) Joe & Evan (10AM-1PM; usually players call in before noon, I think) As we know, Francesspool comes on at 1PM. So maybe once it's the afternoon, the Jets players are unable to be on WFAN. Or maybe, as I mentioned, once TMKS and Francesa are on at the same time (3PM), Jets players are unable to be on WFAN (which, now that I think about it, wouldn't explain why they can't call into Fuckhead from 1PM-3PM). Hmm.. maybe they just hate him because he's a ginormous dickhole. Right on. I had to agree with this assessment when I heard it yesterday. Additionally, he described Schotty's miscues as someone who wants to play with all of his toys and show you that he can play with them. He wants to be exotic instead of just sticking with what works until teams figure out how to counter it. Again, I gotta agree with that. What perplexes me, is that Rex seems like he has the type of mindset - especially in regards to the Offense - that Norv Turner has: keep it simple, consistent, and hammer it until the opposing D shows they can stop it, be it run or pass. For some reason, he allows Schotty to stray from things when they work within a game. I guess I'm mostly speculating here, but that's what it appears is happening when I watch. Yeah, it's like he's avoiding the Jets by all means necessary. I caught a segment during which Paterson talked about the Knicks/Nets, and it HAD to chafe Tank's dick. (paraphrased) PATTERSON: The Nets' problem is that they're unsuccessfully trying to be like Rex Ryan and the Jets, taking over the NYC area with bravado and confidence. The problem is that the Nets didn't land any big free agents, they don't have the bigtime players, they're not winning like the Jets. Haha, Francesa just kinda nodded and then moved onto his next thought.
I wish Paterson could be our governor forever. But only if he wore giant radio headphones all the time.
One correction - Mangold went on ESPN with the guy who subbed for Michael Kay, but what I wrote above is otherwise accurate. I have heard Cotch, Sanchez, Scott, and Brad Smith on either Boomer and Carton or Joe and Evan on the FAN - and none on the Francespool as you call it.
1050 -- the Kay show gets Ryan, Sanchez, Woody, Namath and 11 other Jet guests a week 660 - poor Fatso is stuck with Blindo the Clown, the accidental Governor one month from getting kicked out of the mansion for good
Actually 660 also gets Sanchez, Holmes, and a handful of others. None of them on the old Mother Fucker show though
