Great post; this is Mike's tried and true technique for when he doesn't want to give the Jets credit for winning.

    That's exactly it..

It's never what if when it's the Giants but it is with the Jets.

    Hey fatboy

    What if?

  3. You guys mean "what ifs" can go both ways? I thought the hypotheticals could only work against the Jets.

We had the #1 D but it was not a big time D, true big time D's don't blow as many late leads as our D blew. It was very good and probably the best the NFL had to offer but it was not big time.

Last year our D was better overall but was terrible in big spots but this year it's much worse overall but has found ways to close games. If we can merge the 2 Ds and shut teams down all game we'll be near impossible to beat.

Only way that happens is with a healthy Revis.

I think we would have been a truly great D w/ a normal revis and a healthy jenkins. I think we can still be a true big time D once Revis gets healthy and Pace is up to speed.

I was driving my sis to JFK and turned fat boy on for the first time in a year or so. I could only take about 4 minutes. When he said "The Jets defense completely collapsed, but came back to make a couple of plays." Then he was saying how lucky the Jets got...

Let me ask again... are his ratings going down? Anyone know, or have an Arbitron link?

Pace had 1.5 sacks last night I think. He looked good to me except I remember him missing one tackle.

Um, yeah. Braylon is NO Mickey Mantle. Never will be. Don't even try and compare the two.

I'm not sure what his actual ratings are but WFAN pulls in a 3 while WEPN is only pulling in a 1.0. This was in September. I'm sure there is a breakdown but I don't have the time to search for it.

Oh and here is the link

You make a great point. But I think I know Mike's counter argument, which I may agree with.

Back when Mantle played, the debauchery and drinking was more acceptable AND less accessible, meaning the media protected their heroes.

Nowadays the media cannot wait to tear the "heroes" down from their pedestal. So when players fail we, today, are more apt to hear about it.

Mantle is an icon. A sports icon and a cultural icon. Comparisons can't be made. If you aren't 50 years old, you won't understand the whole Mantle thing. He was bigger than the Pope, bigger than even JFK back in those days. He was indeed larger than life. He was my childhood hero. He was everything we all thought we wanted to be. He WAS America and everything we stood for.

Even Mantle never understood any of that. Mantle was and is in an entirley different realm. It wasn't reality. If you are younger than 50, it's something you probably will have trouble wrapping your head around. Mantle sat at the right hand of God, and the man, the player, suffered for it.

Generally they send books out to people, much like he Nielson ratings but the issue is there is no box or device that records what they are listening to. People bullshit with it, nobody is ever honest. Now they want to introduce people meters but the stations who get the biggest ratings oppose them because they know their numbers are fudged. It will hurt thier advertising if people find out that La Mexicana isn't really pulling in a 12 share.
