when we made the playoffs in 2009 we were only a year removed from 4-12 and we did go from 4 to 9 wins from '07 to '08.
That 2010 team had some strong chemistry, a very well rounded team. Sanchez was also very efficient that year. If our QBs can show that efficiency then I would say the 2015 team has more potential.
There is ALOT being overlooked from the 2009/2010 team in here.... 1) special teams. our special teams was elite. our return game was outstanding. outside of folk our special teams now is a giant question mark or flat out bad. Just fielding punts seems to be an issue for this team. in 9-10 we won a few games on special teams. that cromartie kick return + folk game winner against the colts instantly comes to mind. 2) key role guys. Brad Smith. that dudes numbers were nothing but he made so many huge plays in huge spots. 3) safety. while our secondary is better now having a vet like jim leonhard made a big difference for us. and he was an extension of rex on the field. im not sure we have that coach-player extension now
2011 was the last year we really had a shot. we downgraded the weapons around the QB in 2011 and it hurt us but in 2012 we gave the QB even less and his 2 biggest weapons got hurt plus we lost our best player week 3 on defense.
2011 was all on the coaching. we decided to let sanchez throw more and it killed us. we got were we did in '09 and '10 b not letting sanchez throw and lose games for us. they got ahead of themselves that he was a decent qb based on a couple post season games when the real large sample size still showed he was ineffective. we should have kept a priority on running the ball and limiting sanchez to 350-400 throws and winning with defense and special teams.
The Jets O-line in 2010 had 5 pro bowlers on it and we had a HOF running back. They were a better team hands down. But, I would take our current WRs over 2010s, and I think our LBs are slightly better than 2010s.
We downgraded between 2010 and 2011 as well, since we couldn't afford both Holmes and Edwards, and Cotchery decided to GTFO. 2012 was mostly due to injuries, but also a lack of depth. Somehow our run defense became terrible (if I remember correctly), but Cromartie began to play out of his mind once Revis was injured.
that's just not true, we tried to run but couldn't. we got down early in games and had to pass. the pass game would bring us back and the D would allow late score to end hopes. 2011 was on personnel, we were worse across the board on O.
we did not have 5 PBers on the OL. the OL was good not great that year. Slauson took over for Faneca and only Brick and Mangold made PB(Mangold AP)
the D was a little fool's gold that year, they looked really good on paper but our was so ravaged w/ injury and a lack of talent that opposing teams were conservative against us so it helped our #s.
nah, we threw too much. and we got down early because we turned it over too much early in games (led the NFL in first quarter ints) as well as we turned it over too much in the redzone (also led the NFL in redzone turnovers). Us "throwing because we fell behind" is exactly what im referring to. in '09 and '10 we would stick to running the ball even if we were behind. kept games close. in '11 we would just air it... way too often. we even started some games out passing from the empty set(came out no huddle 5 wide vs new england) We threw nearly twice as often on first downs. thats not sticking to run first.
I meant that all 5 players had been or eventually made a pro bowl, but I was wrong, Slauson replaced Faneca between the 2009 and 2010 seasons, so there were only 4. My bad.
we were one of top RZ O's in NFL too. I think you are just making things up here. I didn't go through all the teams but Wash had more INTs in 1st qtr so that stat isn't true. each game is different, each situation is different but we tried to run in 1st halves and especially early in season were unsuccessful which led to us getting behind and having to throw.
