There was some really boring games. I don't understand why San Jose State continues to book these games against powerhouses. I guess the ~$500,000 is worth it. I have a friend who is a coach on the womans Volleyball team, so I guess you need to get destroyed in football to pay for the good sports.
yeah, it's money. Teams don't like getting destroyed, but if they agree to play a powerhouse it brings in a heck of a lot more money than playing, say, Duke.
I dunno if that's entirely fair. LSU's defensive interior folded in the second half and it really allowed UNC back into the game. Plus you can't blame the coaching staff for most of the turnovers that kept the game close. In general I think that Les Miles and company take too much criticism. No, Coach Hat isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. But he's done a bang up job recruiting, and as lucky as the '07 team was nobody can take away the fact that he's won a National Championship. When I look around the SEC, I can really only say with confidence that I'd rather have Saban and Meyer (and maybe Richt.)
Ryan Colburn played one of the best halves of football that I've seen in a long damn time... 9 of 9 for 145 yards and 2 scores in a HUGE win over Cincinnati. For the first time in his career, it actually looked like things clicked for Colburn. He displayed excellent pocket presence and arm strength. His first quarter INT was pretty bad, but he obviously shook that throw off. I've been waiting about four years for the defense to play like they did last night - flying to the ball, getting constant pressure on the quarterback, and forcing game changing turnovers. That was a damn good performance last night by Fresno's defense. The Original BCS Busters are back.
Strange to me that one of ESPN's top college football stories is Alabama winning without Ingram. While Ingram is a good runner, it's not a big downgrade to Richardson, and Alabama's overall advantage on the lines was huge against SJ State. Heck, they were 40 point favorites. It's a big deal that they won?
Fresno State defensive tackle Logan Harrell was named National Defensive Player of the Week. Harrell had 5 tackles, 4 sacks, 4.5 TFLs, a forced fumble, and a pass deflection against Cincinnati. http://www.gobulldogs.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/090510aab.html
Anybody catch the ECU-Tulsa game on ESPN? ECU just won on a hail mary with no time left. Absolutely zero defense in this game, fun to watch.
crazy game. Even less defense than in the USC game. They were just going back and forth scoring TDs. I just saw a replay of the winning TD.
My wife went to ECU, she fell asleep for the best part. Her loss. I'm gonna tell her they lost when she wakes up. Yeah, I'm an asshole. The guy that caught it was a 6'8" TE. Not a bad guy to have around for a hail mary.
Two wow plays back to back in SMU/TT. First Darius Johnson makes a sick one-handed catch of a throw by Kyle Padron. On the play, Padron had his shoe come off or something, so he was replaced for a play. The backup came in, dropped back, was swarmed by defenders, but the first guy actually leaped over him. He ducked a little and avoided the player. Got sacked anyway, but it was quite a play. Then on the same drive, a 61 yard FG converted by SMU!!!!! New SMU record, and that would've been good from 65. 35-20 TT now.
Thanks ESPN, for only showing part of the last TD play. It was 4th and 6 and SMU went for it. 35-27 TT
I mean to an extent. but if we are paying Miles like a top coach we expect him to coach like a top coach. He is a great recruiter and no Tiger fan has questions about the talent (maybe depth but only because we are young) we should be much better than we are. Also in a lot of the losses over the last couple of years it has never really come down to being totally overmatched talent wise, its come down to lots of knuckleheaded coaching decisions. Not every snap obviously but the whole point of coaching is to put players in a possition to benefit the team, Miles and the staff havent seem to master that Also Revis, we didnt lose to a D IAA school, the only thing that would have made your loss sweeter is if Ryan Perilloux was the QB of Jacksonville State, but loosing to a true freshman QB isnt THAT bad
