ESPN claiming Washington threw for 102 yards in the first half. Better recheck those numbers. I see 17, and none from Locker. Anyway, Locker completes his first pass, finally. Locker runs one in, after that. 16-7, XP pending
What the hell was ESPN talking about? After that drive, Locker is 1 for 8 with 26 yards passing. That was tough run for the score, but he's still very unimpressive.
Maybe the stats were for "If the Locker hype were accurate, these would be the numbers..." Washington defense still owning the Nebraska O-line. Keep it up.
Martinez limping badly and his whole team completely ignored him. No one came to help him after he got sacked to end another Nebraska drive.
Announcers making excuses for Locker. There's more to playing QB than passing, he's managing the game well, etc. This is setting for a "he just wins" argument, except Washington went 6-6. Let me just say that while there is more to playing QB than passing numbers, Locker is not playing well, and the announcers should recognize that fact.
Locker from a passing perspective has not shown much but as a playmaker he's played a smart game. Hasn't forced much at all, has seen 2 drops in the game, has been unstoppable when running out of the pocket and showed poise and heart coming back from the injury and still running as hard. I do think this locks him in as A 2nd round QB though. Though Foles didn't look so good and I bet he will stay in school. Gabbert also despite the numbers made some silly mistakes that might not look good when the final grade comes out and he might stay.
I think this game hurt his pro prospects, but it's not a big loss because going into this game his draft stock was not too high to begin with. The fact that he couldn't do anything except scramble against Nebraska does not look good. Scrambling may look good now, but I don't see him having near that kind of open space in the NFL, and he's expected to show something in the passing game. Nebraska has one of the better defenses around, but that doesn't excuse 4/14 for 52 yards. If we were discussing him as a college QB, I wouldn't mind this game at all, because he did make good decisions and was able to make some plays with his legs. But since this is the end of his college career... The story of this game was the Washington defense absolutely dominating the Nebraska offense, in marked contrast to the game in Seattle.
Braska does have one of the best CBs in the nation though and the WSH WR don't usually get good separation I do agree though that he's a project at this point......However we've seen people like Matt Jones get taken early based on athleticism. Only Locker is smart and is much more motivated and smarter than Jones who'd rather waste his upside by smoking whatever shit and get lazy.
Have you seen his stats from his game against Nebraska earlier in the year? 4 of 20 for 71 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Terrible.
We've gotten to the point where you have to stop making excuses for this kid. I don't care if he doesn't have talent around him. I know you're a big fan of his, but he hasn't progressed at all during his college career. Jay Cutler played and put up very good numbers at Vanderbilt. That school's not exactly a football powerhouse. Jake Locker needs to stick to baseball.
Well, its officially gameday for my Knights. I'll try not to be too much of a Homer...as I tend to be blind when it comes to them. Georgia (6-6) vs #25 UCF (10-3). Most of you who follow college football know Georgia is better than their record suggests. They started 1-4, not having AJ Green for the first four games effected them greatly. Interested to see if Josh Robinson can slow AJ down at all. Josh is a really good cover corner, but this is clearly his most difficult task to date. But as great as AJ is, I think the gamebreaker is going to be Orson Charles, the Georgia TE. He plays more like WR than anything else and could cause nightmares up the middle. The one thing that plays into UCFs hands a bit is the fact that Georgia relies on the play action to open up the passing game, so they'll try and establish a run game early. No easy task as UCFs run defense is 10th in the nation (held KSU D.Thomas to 76 yards) UCF has had a very successful season with all things considered. Their QB, Jeff Godfrey, is a true freshman (broke all of Jacory Harris' HS records in Miami-Dade) and much of their running game has been put on Ronnie Weaver, a former walk-on who got bumped into the starting role due to injuries. The team has a very talented group of WRs, but don't expect much from the pass game, as UCF comes in with the 25th best rushing offense in the nation. Between Weaver/ Lat.Murray and Godfrey, UCF combined for 2,178 yards and 30 TDs on the ground. UGA's Run defense ranks 60th. UCF has never won a bowl game (0-3). I'm a big UCF homer, but Georgia finished the season strong, and their SEC size will definitely expose UCFs weaknesses in the trenches. 79% of the country is picking Georgia, and I can't say I disagree. What a joke the end of that SU-K-State game was. if there was a p[enatly it should have been on the SU player for shoving the K-State WR 8 yards deep in the EZ long after the play was over. It's a shame an exciting ending had to be ruined by such a terrible call.
meineke announcers: when you get in the red zone, you want to get touchdowns, not field goals. You don't want to settle for field goals.
Yeah, an absolute joke of a call. I'm really surprised the refs didn't get together and pick the flag up. Such a minor celebration, in that situation, you just dont make that call. I'm impressed with USFs defense so far, they just seem so much faster. I don't get to watch many Clemson games, but they need to knock it off with all these screens. USF is all over em.
