Tough break? That kid's a fucking idiot. He did this to himself. In my opinion, he shouldn't be allowed to play college ball again.
It would have been crazy to allow Masoli to play after what he did just months after banning Dez Bryant basically for talking to Deion Sanders.
^^ True...perhaps tough break wasn't the right phrase. No doubt he's not too bright and this whole transfer was a joke.
The NCAA usually does not penalize a graduate student leaving for a new graduate program with a one year sit out. It's bullshit. If he went to Alabama, he'd be playing. Fuck the NCAA.
“There is no requirement that says a student-athlete must be in good standing with an athletics team, just the university, which he was,” said Boone. “That question is not part of the waiver application. We are aware of other student-athletes with similar issues, but since their team status was not public, their waivers were successful.” Ole Miss appealing.
ESPN seems to suggest that the reason he was denied was because he didnt go for academic reasons. Bullshit argument, I know. However, loosing Masoli just means LSU has an easier job against Ole Miss come november
You do understand that this kid plead guilty to robbery a year ago, right? It'd be a complete disgrace if the NCAA let him play this season.
Uh, really? The kid deserves to be suspended for the 2010 season, he transferred because he was suspended and kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons. I know about this whole academic reasons argument and it's all bullshit, but the NCAA apparently thought they needed to make up an excuse. What I find absolutely mind-numbing is how people are saying that the NCAA is making another mistake by taking the matter individually. Read this quote from an Atlanta Journal Constitution blogger: Don't you people that support Masoli understand what this means in the big picture?? The NCAA actually using discretion on certain cases is a VERY GOOD THING. Why have we seen 99% of the horrible decisions the NCAA has made over the years? Because they follow the letter of the law so intensely close without caring even slightly about individual circumstances. The NCAA has been for years a heartless, gutless robot, now finally we see them make a decision that's based on what's right. This decision should be celebrated, and sure, it sucks for Ole Miss fans, but their coach shouldn't have taken in a guy with baggage like that without thinking there'd be some repercussions for it. If screwing a kid like Masoli who has messed up his own life after numerous chances means that some of the innocent kids that get cheated by the "letter of the law" NCAA get a fair judgment, I'm 100% for it.
Completely agree, using discretion is very good especially for the NCAA. It goes far beyond just football, in every college sport.
More than likely, USC doesn't have shit to play for this year or next so might as well be a dick about it
And yet I still like him more than Stull. On the Masoli situation: Good. He plead guilty to theft. He deserves to sit a season.
