Ha, it was a Jr Jays day so there was tons of little brats. One asked me for the ball and I was, "No". har har
Atlanta was about -180 today at home vs. KC, but Kawakami again failed to get his first win of the season, getting a ND as Atlanta won. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/recap/MLB_20100620_KC@ATL
Jon Miller loves announcing Red Sox games. It gives him the opportunity to say - and mispronounce - "Beltre" many, many times. He just did it about eight times in three sentences. Hershiser made a comment and pronounced it correctly, which probably pissed off Miller. I'm convinced he's doing it on purpose, because he must've been told this a few hundred times, and you can tell he's saying the name as often as possible. He says it more than he says other names, that's for sure.
ESPN games are torture to listen to. My Red Sox experience goes from the best announcing team I've heard to one of the worst.
He did accidentally say it right once, when Beltre was going after a foul ball. I know, I know. I could hardly believe it either. 2-0 Red Sox in the 4th.
It's mystifying to me how announcers tend to butcher every Hispanic name in sports. It's pretty simple--stress the second to last syllable unless there's an accent. But with announcers it's always Mark SanCHEZ, Adrian BelTRE, Carlos BelTRAN...I don't know if these guys are just stupid, or what?
2-2 count, Bard throws a fastball that was pretty clearly over the plate and waist high. It gets called a ball. The geniuses in the booth completely ignore the pitch and the reaction from the crowd because they're too busy wishing each other a Happy Father's Day.
It's Jon Miller's trademark. Now that you mention it, I think he does the same thing with Beltran. I don't know if he's trying to piss off viewers, or if he wants people to think he's a complete idiot. It's hard to tell. Joe Morgan is pretty annoying as well. Two different methods.
Jon Miller used to do Giants games, he was torture to listen to but for some reason the players loved him there in SF.
Marlins fired Fredi Gonzalez today, much to his surprise. Edwin Rodriguez, who had been managing at Triple-A New Orleans, was named interim manager. The bench coach and hitting coach were also axed. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp..._id=11488044&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
Kazmir getting rocked by Dodgers. There was just a play where a grounder when off his glove with the bases loaded. He picked it up and threw to second where Jamey Carroll was going in hard. The ump ruled him safe, and Kazmir was furious... yet Carroll got up and start jogging away as if he'd been called out. He finally realized and tried to dive back to the bag, but Wood tagged him. Out. Bizarre. You don't leave the base unless you know you've been called out.
Angels down 6-4. They should be winning, but they keep making ridiculous baserunning mistakes. I guess the Dodgers were trying to even it up with Carroll, but some Angel just took off with the pitcher still holding the ball (1st and 3rd, 2 out). Rundown, runner on third then takes off, he's thrown out. 1-4-3-2-5, Willits thrown out Hunter and Abreu, two old and out of shape guys, were thrown out stealing in the first to destroy what could've been a big inning. Sold-out game of course, and the crowd has been going crazy with dueling cheers ("LETS GO ANGELS LET'S GO DODGERS LET'S GO ANGELS...").
Bobby Abreu is perhaps the dumbest baserunner I have ever seen. Anyway, Joe Maddon tried something interesting this week: http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/rays/raves-for-joe-maddons-sly-rant/1104849
I saw that, was hilarious. The announcers were in hysterics. I may hate the Rays, but Madden is a hell of a coach.
