I'm ready for baseball to re-start for the Yanks tomorrow... Yesterday is out of my head. The day off today was good.
Heating pad and low velocity have skeptics' heat on CC Sabathia This is the kind of shoddy journalism that gets the typical ignorant fan all riled up. Why do I say it's shoddy journalism? Because it would have taken all of two minutes to verify where CC's velocity was via Pitch F/X at Gameday. What would Pitch F/X have told McCarron? It would have told him that CC was sitting at 93 and hitting 95, just like he normally does. Non-story.
It's like people haven't seen the Yankees suck for the first halves of seasons for years now. It's one game. If we're below .500 in a month and a half, then there's a story. Plus, missing ARod is a huge, huge deal for our lineup.
But Joe Morgan said he had low velocity, and Joe Morgan played baseball! Did Pitch F/X ever turn a double play with Dave Concepcion? I think not!
And you get nothing for saying "mad props." --- But yeah, I still love the argument that you can tell more by watching then by fielding metrics. How the fuck you do guys think they come up with these numbers? They watch, and they watch a hell of a lot more than you do, and they do so critically and objectively.
Hmm. You make a good point. But Morgan probably just hasn't seen enough of this Sabathia kid to form an opinion of him.
I dont know what gun is more accurate but the YES gun had him maxing out at 90 I believe...nowhere near 93-95....just watching the game tells me he didnt come near 95....plus he couldnt throw the fastball anywhere near the strike zone....maybe theres something to it
I just figured a bunch of nerds got together and scratched out equations on a blackboard, drank some Manichewitz grape wine and called it good.
right on. Didnt look like 85 though. Was he hitting that consistently according to that f/x gun thingy?
To me it looked like Sabathia had enough speed on his pitches, he just had zero control. As for the heating pad between innings, he said he was just trying to stay warm, and I tend to believe him. Had he done something like pull his rib cage I'm pretty sure we'd have been able to see some sign of it on tv, and I'm sure Girardi would have had Monahan watching like a hawk the first time he glanced over and saw CC put the pad under his jacket.
Here's the Yankees lineup tonight: Jeter SS Damon LF Teixeira 1B Matsui DH Posada C Cano 2B Nady RF Ransom 3B Gardner CF And the pitching matchup: Chien-Ming Wang (RHP) vs. RHP Koji Uehara (RHP)
That excuse can go RIGHT OUT the door when you have Damon, DJ, Tex, Matsui, Posada, Cano, and Nady. This is BALTIMORE we're making an excuse for? I understand ARod is very important...But Baltimore? Come on Mack.
Pitching wins games, Yankees lost because Sabathia didn't have control of his fastall, it's that simple, we scored enough runs.
Baltimore has a better than imagined offense. They will have one of the top 12 or 13 lineups this season, mark it down. If they can get the young pitching to perform to potential, they'll battle for the wildcard within the next few seasons.
