No. Just no already. This might possibly be the worst defensive team the Yankees have had in my lifetime. With A-Rod out there isn't one above average guy out there, except maybe Tex.
This is the first time since 05 I had any REAL excitement for this franchise. Even over the last few years I knew we didnt have the pitching nor the clutch hitting to get over the hump. I thought the additions we made from all accounts would finally put us back in pre 01' mode. Then I endured painful AM radio static in a pouring rain storm when I should have been WORKING to hear THAT joke of a performance. Those who are saying that this is a typical recent Yankees loss is absolutely right. Sure it was just one game...but they looked atrocious against a horrid team. I for one am disgusted.
Nah...I started drinking heavily since than...so no. I am allowed to vent about a shitty performance though...no?
Um... what? Teixeira is not a maybe. He's a gold glove caliber first basemen. Secondly, Gardner and Damon are both above average at their positions, and Cano can be, if he doesn't have his head up his ass. He's had two good defensive seasons, one okay one, and one shitty one. But most importantly, this team has nothing on last year's team. Just getting rid of Abreu and Giambi make up for that. Really, people. It amazes me what one game can do to some of you.
Yes, it was one poorly played game, but it's one game. In a very hostile environment. In the cold. In the first one that counts. Against a team who might be in first place today, but check the standings again in May. You'll get no argument from me that the game was poorly played by the Yankees, but they did score 5, so it's not like the bats were asleep. The pitching will come around.
Complain about a shitty game played. But there is no way you can make the fucking assessment that the monetary investment in the newly acquired players was a waste. Watching (and listening) to the game was frustrating yesterday, no doubt. But Sabathia couldn't hit the strike zone...that shit happens. If he makes 30 starts and has 5 horrible outings, opening day being one of them, I still think the investment was good. But there is no way griping about getting players now has any merit.
Come down from the ledge Yankee fans, there is a loooong way to go before starting to panic. Yanks will be absolutely fine, irrationality at its finest in this thread.
See now, this is because Cappy's pocket protector is so big that he can't see the TV. Neither Damon nor Gardner looks good at all tracking fly balls. And my sister has a better arm than Damon. I am not overreacting at all. The Yanks are clearly doomed.
Damon's UZR/150 as a LF for the Yankees: 2007 - 35.4 2008 - 9.9 Brett Gardner's UZR/150 as a CF for the Yankees: 2008 - 66.3 By definition, according to that metric (or any defensive metric you care to use), Damon and Gardner are both "above average." UZR includes range, so regardless of whether you want to say that they look shitty tracking balls, they are still above average. As a LF, Damon's arm is practically a non-factor.
You're a big fan of the stats that say Jeter is one of the worst fielding shortstops in all of baseball?
Um, Jeter has been one of the worst fielding shortstops in baseball. Although last year UZR had him decidedly in the middle of the pack. Slightly below average. It could be a fluke. Or it could be something to do with the agility drills he said he spent the 07-08 offseason working on. *shrugs* You see, dave... some people are capable of assessing the skill sets of the players on their preferred team in an unbiased manner. I wouldn't expect you to know anything about that, though.
I just knew you were going to do this. Anyone who ever played baseball in high school would say they looked like a couple of invalids out there trying to run down drives to the warning track. Of course, "Damon's SQUID rating conclusively proves he's prettier than every other girl in my 9th grade gym class, blah, blah, blah." According to my super-scientific analysis that took me less than 5 mins to formulate, teams are going to score lots of cheap runs off the Yanks this season. You watch and you can agree with me later.
He is one of the worst, you can see that watching him play, he has terrible range, just atrocious. His arm is average at best, he doesn;t charge balls well, he has to play very deep to have any shot at balls that most SS handle easily. Really the only play he is any good at is going back to his right for pop-ups, he should be playing 1b or LF ideally. Gardner I haven't seen enough, nor is there really enough data to trust UZR or +/- on, As to Damon, he was probably a bit below average as a CF, as his range was diminishing and his arm is awful, but in left his range is good, and the arm doesn't matter as much, also most LFs in MLB are pretty bad fielders
Well, regardless of whether or not you think the metrics are accurate, you have to admit that it's beyond retarded to base your opinion on a few plays from the one game that's been played this season. But it's already a lost cause. You have your opinion, and I'm sure your confirmation bias will take over from here. Have fun with that.
