Curry fits best into a 4-3 Cover 2. He reminds me a lot of Tampa Bay's Derrick Brooks...and I could actually see Tampa drafting him, if he falls to them. I don't know how much longer Brooks can go, but imagine a Cover 2 linebacking corps of Ruud, Curry, and Brooks. I'm not a fan of Brian Cushing in the 3/4. I don't think he'll go in the first round unless he has a great combine. I'd like to take an inside linebacker later in the draft: South Carolina's Jasper Brinkley Pitt's Scott McKillop Nevada's Josh Mauga Virginia's Clint Stintim (who Dware brought up the other day) A guy that shouldn't be unknown, but he is for the most part because he's overshadowed by Maualuga and Cushing is Clay Matthews. He's my favorite linebacker prospect in this draft besides Jasper Brinkley.
I like Curry better than Cushing, but I think both would do fine in our 3-4. Both are just good, fundamentally sound LBers with above average physical skills. They're big, physical, and both have well rounded defensive games. Plus, both are leaders on their respective D's. Clint Sintim IMO best represents what a LB in the 3-4 should be. I think you can play him either inside or outside and he'd do well in this system, and it doesn't help that he's developing under Groh.
Shonn Greene Iowa's only force offensively and still gets it done im not gonna take credit for discovering cause i heard about a couple of weeks ago somewhere else but this guy looks like he could be the real deal. Looks like a Rashard Mendenhall type but a little bit slower 4.45 - 4.5 speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrWZwH9VVJU
So how nasty have Raji and Brace been? Raji is a monster. Mark Herzlich was all over the field...but that whole D works off of those two DTs. What a shit night for ND...I like Clausen but he and the team played like crap today.
Michael Oher LT Ole Miss He's a beast, 6'5, 325 pounds and was said in "the blind side" to be quicker than most people on his high school football team. One of the most highly touted recruits coming out of high school and starting football his Junior year in high school. If you've read the book "the blind side," you'll understand how he has great character and is developing to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. A little inexperienced but still has great potential. Oher was selected to play in the 2005 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. ESPN football analyst Tom Lemming ranked him as the #1 offensive line prospect in high school in 2004, and also said, "Michael Oher?s athletic ability and his body ? the only thing you could compare it to was Orlando Pace." ESPN says he is the best LT in this years draft and a likely 1st round pick. I'd take him in the first or second round(if he is still there.
Oher will be a Top 15 pick at the latest, and more likely a Top 5 pick. IMO, the Jet's have more needs in Rd 1.......Big WR, 3-4 DE, CB or even a RB (we only have 2 and Jones is pushing 30). I'd even consider a OG (like Duke Robinson) in late Rd 1 for depth and continued development of our O-Line.
I think Oher would have went over Long last year. His physical talent and rapid improvements really gave and give him that kind of potential.
Did anyone watch that USC defense today against Notre Dame ? They were solid. In the first half the Irish ran 20 plays from scrimmage, netting just nine yards. In the entire game ND had 91 total yards offense! Rey Maualuga hits just like a freight train.
I'm bumping this guy because I don't think any pass rusher raised his stock this season more than Brown, and that includes Clint Sintim and Orakpo. He came in as a first round talent, but he really separated himself from the pack with his play this year. He was arguably the best pass rusher in all of football this year. He should be leaving as he's a 4th year junior, and I have him pegged as one of the ten best players in this draft. The only DE I like as much as this guy is Hardy, but Hardy's got the injury history and character issues that gets him knocked down a peg. And while we drafted a pass rusher last year, I really don't think theres such a thing as too many pass rushers.
I don't see the comparison. Curry's at his best playing over the TE and Brooks plays on the weakside. Curry's assignments at Wake aren't remotely similar to Brooks' assignments in Tampa. Curry can play in any scheme so yes, he most certainly can play ILB or OLB in the 4-3.
Right on. His spin-move is Freeney-like and I'd be surprised if he didn't run in the 4.5's during the post-season. Wisconsin's LT is no slouch either. He'll be a legitimate pro prospect next year. But like you said, he's dominated all year. Sintim isn't in the same realm as him athletically... I can't imagine the Jets would take Brown though considering how much they've invested in the OLB position. It's a shame, too.
Derrick Brooks is a strongside linebacker, he's not big enough to play in the 3-4 (6'0 235), and he could cover just about anybody over the middle in his prime. Curry is a similar prospect except he's a little bigger at 245. Curry is one of the smartest linebackers I've seen in a long time. I can't see him reaching his full potential in a 3-4. He has too much playmaking ability -- he needs to be able to roam. He shouldn't have to play in a defense where he has to take on blockers ALL the time. He'd probably be successful in any scheme, but I just see him as a Cover 2 linebacker. ...and of course Curry doesn't have the same assignments as Brooks does in Tampa Bay - Wake doesn't play the Tampa 2. Wake usually lines up in the nickel package for the entire game.
Cato June is Tampa's strongside linebacker. Brooks plays on the weakside. Curry's strengths, whether it in the 4-3 of 3-4, fall in line with the strongside position.. He's tremendous at taking on blocks, re-directing, setting the edge, stringing plays, blitzing off the edge, etc. And, as you mentioned, the body types aren't really similar. His change of direction skills are average and he doesn't always breakdown when tackling so I'm actually led to believe that playing in a position like Brooks where he has more responsibilities playing in space wouldn't be the best for him...even though he can do it since I maintain he can play any LB position in any defense.
Holy bad scouting report Batman! 1. Build is much more important than just weight, and Curry is built heavier/thicker than Brooks. 2. Brooks is a weak side line backer. 3. Curry is sick at attacking the line, and is more than capable of playing inside in a 3-4. 4. Curry is built like David Harris, and will probably measure in with similar size (Harris was 6'2 245). 5. Basically, the only similarity I see between Brooks and Curry is that they're both extremely talented linebackers. If I compare Brooks to anyone, it's a less athletic Derek Johnson or Karlos Dansby. Guys who can play many roles in any D and be pretty damn good at it. Now that I think about it, David Harris isn't a bad comparison for Curry at all. Remember, one of the reasons Harris wasn't a really high pick was because he messed up his knee in college.
Almost every sports website that I've looked at has Derrick Brooks listed as a strongside linebacker. I guess I shouldn't take their word for it... I'll stick to my comparison. I don't see Aaron Curry as a 3-4 linebacker. He's a great blitzer and he's awesome against the run, but I can't see him being effective taking on blockers all game. As for Curry being heavier Brooks, I know this. Curry has about 20 pounds on Brooks. Remember David Harris wasn't a high pick because he's slow and he looks like he's running in mud most of the time. Great tackler, horrible in coverage. How can you compare Brooks to Karlos Dansby and then try to say I'm stupid for comparing him to Curry? Dansby is 6'4 255. Brooks is 6'0 235. Dansby is way "thicker" as you like to say. Derrick Brooks can't play "many" roles in a defense. He was the perfect fit for the Tampa 2. He's far to undersized to play in basically any other defensive scheme. Go cry about Mangini some more...
If we are looking for a Safety around 4-5 round David Bruton Of ND is not a bad Choice... 6'2" 212lbs dont know his 40 time but he is a big time hitter and has the nfl scouts drooling..
My all time Favorite person i would want to draft is Chris Beanie Wells..... Reminds me of a Jamal Lewis in his hey day... We got a taste of Jamal early in the season when we faced the browns and he ran... the kid is big powerful and fast and will wear down opposing defenses then we could hit them with a like version of Earth/Wind/Fire aka Jacobs/Bradshaw/Ward maybe we could call them Shake/Rattle/ and Roll Washington/Jones/ and Wells.. they have a three back rotation dont see why it wouldnt work over here..
not a bad pick here.. i always said that if we wanted a speed rusher we needed to head to the acc sec or pac 10 for straight up speed
