Nick Pietruszkiewicz: Meanwhile, Buster Olney says for the Yankees to get Granderson, it will cost Phil Hughes and Austin Jackson. Either Granderson or Halladay. Not both.
The PTBNL in the Bruney deal is going to the be National's first pick in the Rule V draft this Thursday. (Source) (Explanation of how Rule V draft works) Granderson is absolutely not worth Hughes & Jackson. Hell, I wouldn't deal either of them individually for Granderson. Jackson has a ton of potential to be better than Granderson, and Hughes has shown he can be an effective ML pitcher.
The D'Backs pushed for a blockbuster three-way deal with the Yankees and Tigers today, only to see one of those two teams veto it, according to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The deal would have sent Curtis Granderson to the Yanks and Edwin Jackson to the D'Backs. Talks are apparently at an "impasse" now, though the D'Backs continue to push for a trade. No word on who the D'Backs would have included.
I wouldnt want to include A-Jax for anybody unless you have some absolute stud bat available or stud pitcher available I'm not trading him
It would have been something along these lines: (Source) Yanks Receive: Granderson & a couple prospects D'Backs Receive: Edwin Jackson, Ian Kennedy Tigers Receive: Max Scherzer (D'Backs), Austin Jackson, Phil Coke, Michael Dunn (Yankees)
I couldn't care less about Dunn and Coke, but Kennedy and Austin for Granderson? Still no. Wake me when he can hit lefties. I don't see his "potential" extending beyond Granderson's. He'll hit lefties better, sure, but Granderson hits 20-25 homeruns a season while OPSing sub 800 as a gold glove centerfielder.
except Granderson has gotten progressively worse offensively and defensively for the last few seasons. UZR/150 2006: 14.1 2007: 12.9 2008: -9.4 2009: 1.6 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) 2007: 7.4 2008: 3.8 2009: 3.4 OPS+ 2007: 135 2008: 123 2009: 100 Jackson was the Yankees top-prospect last season for a reason, he has great potential. He is a "5-tool prospect" which includes potential for average, power, speed, arm strength, & fielding. He has shown he can hit for a decent average, excellent speed, excellent fielding, good arm strength, and developing power. One of the reasons for his lack of power last season was because the team was having him focus on driving the ball to the opposite field. Like I said in my earlier post, he has the potential to be a similar, if not better, player to Granderson
The top Yankee prospect last season was Jesus. And you're more optimistic about Jackson than I am. I saw Jackson play a few times in Scranton. The dude is short, like 5' 10 short, and I'm not convinced he'll ever "fill out" to reach Granderson's ceiling. You're right about the org having him focus about hitting it opposite field though. When I saw him he was David Wrighting the ball instead of waiting for a good pitch to drive. Still he really hasn't shown to hit for much power outside one half a season in Tampa, and his abnormally high BABIP inflated an otherwise "okay" season for Jackson. Also, after FMart graduated he was the youngest player in the IL. And I'm probably judging him too fast, but we'll see after this season if Jackson ever amounts to anything.
Fuck, I really don't know if I want that deal. I'm really, really on the fence. :breakdance: If I hadn't seen Granderson look absolutely dumb stupid against Coke this year i'd be all for it. Fuck Phil Coke.
Fielding stats are bullshit. Granderson had less and less of Magglio playing next to him who has no range so whoever was out there had better range and was catching making more plays.
