Lo Duca was very good in his time in NY and Ramon Castro has been an excellent backup when healthy. Schneider should be better defensively this year being more comfortable with the pitching staff and he was surprisingly good offensively last year.

It would be nice to see them sign Manny Ramirez, but according to mets.com they aren't interested in him. Dan Murphy could have a really good year though. I'm not so sure about Fernando Tatis and Nick Evans though. Tatis is better served as a role player and Evans should be in the minors.

And they also upped their offer to Ollie. No word on whether it was up from the $30MM, the 3 years, or both.

that could be a good signing...omar has been very good with bringing in scrap bench players and having them produce. Like Marlon Anderson the first year, Tatis, Endy Chavez, Jose Valentine.

Left field and Right field are gone.

The section behind home plate will probably be down by the end of next week at the rate they're going.

Texas offered 2 years, 16 million to Ben Sheets. At which point the Mets should walk in, laugh heartily, and offer 2 years, more than 16 million. To play in a pitchers park, for a contender.

And then when he gets hurt again is on the DL after his 3rd start?

I'd say, "that's odd, he usually doesn't get hurt early in the season. Good thing we also signed Oliver Perez, since money really isn't an object for this team and should be put towards smart contracts like that. I guess we'll have to wait a couple of months for Sheets, but he'll be fine soon enough since he's only made less than 22 starts in a season once, and has a career ERA+ of 116 with a filty K/BB ratio. Good thing we didn't avoid giving him this short, relatively inexpensive contract based on perception!"

Sheets makes too much sense for the Mets. He's twice the pitcher Oliver Perez is.

And that's why they're not going to sign him.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I still want Ollie. He's a young lefthander with nasty stuff when he's on. His problem is his consistency, but he's just now entering his prime. History if filled with lefty power pitchers who took a few years to fully develop their potential.

Then again, i'd take Pedro back for cheap but he'd just clog up the rotation.

There's got to be SOMETHING with Sheets injuries or he would of been gobbled up a lot earlier.

I'd be very surprised if you're in the minority regarding Ollie - I haven't met a single Mets fan who doesn't want him back, particularly since Lowe is gone.

It's not my money to spend, of course, but I would personally be very happy if they tried to sign Sheets also (I said this about Lowe and Perez about a month ago, but it obviously didn't happen). How many times does it have to be said that you can never have too much (good) pitching?

With a rotation of Santana/Sheets/Perez/Pelfrey/Maine (or whatever you want to put it in), and a back-end of the bullpen with Putz and K-Rod, the Mets wouldn't even need to address the offense because that might be the best staff in baseball.

I agree, people forget or bullpen blew 29 leads after the 8th inning, save 5 of those games and we win the division, let's also not forget since we had a 4 game lead the first week of September.

The difference between your opinion and ours is you want just Ollie, I want both Ollie and Sheets, and the something is our economy or else a lot of the big fish still in the market would have been taken by now

I still can't believe pitchers and catchers report in about 40 days and Adam Dunn, Manny, Sheets and Ollie among others are still on the market. Aren't the White Sox still looking to move Jermaine Dye? Why not make a phone call to Chicago to see what they'd want in return.
