*Aguiar had one of the biggest FG holds in Jet history--also took a FG snap off the helmet in that 3-0 Washington game. *I have vague memories of Bobby Howfield as the only pre-Leahy kicker I could remember. *The Glenn Foley pic is from Week 2 of the 1998 season, we dropped to 0-2 before going 12-2 the rest of the way. I was at that game---a little "name the game" for you, junc. *Mirer, ugh.
You'd figure it's from the regular season game, but there is a chance it was from the preseason game. I was at the preseason game in 1998 when the Ravens beat the Jets 33-0. It was the worst preseason game I've ever seen from the Jets. That particular game was played mostly in daylight, unlike most preseason games.
The pic was the preseason game, back then we were using gras in preseason but still had turf in the reg season and yes that game was awful but like you said it was a day game(I think it was a 5 PM start) and my friend and I went to theyankee game earlier that day then went staright to the Jet game after. It was a lost day for both of my teams as the Yanks were crushed erlier in the day by Texas(for one of their few losses that year) then the Jets were crushed that evening. 2 Raul Allegre We haven't had many 2's.
I stand corrected. Oddly, I remember that preseason a little more than most, maybe because of the change in uniforms. That was the preseason Jason Sehorn got hurt returning a kickoff aginst us, and I remember we played the Bears because I was working in Illinois that month. The Giant game was on national TV, first time I saw Vinny in a Jet helmet. I remember getting a good vibe from seeing that which turned out to be true, which as most Jet fans know, rarely happens. Allegre made a contribution for the ages in his brief time with the Jets. We also had Toni Linhardt who wore #2, a kicker that was previously on the Baltimore Colts. In 1979 Pat Leahy was hurt for most of the season and we had a handful of guys come in throughout the season, Linhardt was one of them. He had a distinctive little move on his kickoffs, he approached the ball with a kind of loop. If I'm not mistaken he was a lefty. David Jacobs (who wore #1) eventually solidified the position and challenged Leahy in camp the next season, but Leahy beat him out.

junc goes out with a bang--Mike Adamle and Tony Meola. Nice. No David Jacobs pics available, huh? He later kicked for Walt Michaels again with the New Jersey Generals.
