It really was a smart move by Tanny to sign Crow and draft Wilson with the impending doom of the Revis holdout hanging over the franchise this summer. Revis is screwed.
Yes it was. You haven't seen anybody say the Jets are screwed without Revis, just that they'd be better if he was on the team. I'm convinced that Tannenbaum and Woody knew this was going to blow up all along and did whatever they had to to avoid getting caught in the explosion. It was luck that Wilson fell to us, giving the Jets an easy pick at the end of the first round. That said, a cornerback on 29 with Revis, Cromartie and Lowery already under contract was not a necessity unless somebody thought there was an issue coming up.
I really think it would be in our best interest to trade Revis. The announcer was making a point last night about value to worth. Revis has a high value but his worth to us compared to another team is very low. Someone else said this already but to restate it. Cromartie is a top corner and wilson is obviously better than sheppard. If we can trade revis for a decent #2 good nickle back and get a 1st and 2nd rounder we would be so much better off. We wouldnt have to choose who we wanted to resign this season. We could just resign everyone. Overall it would make our team better and we would have substantial depth with tons of picks. I would rather have Cromartie Harris Mangold Holmes Braylon 1st 2nd and a cb then Revis Mangold Harris and a wr and a fa cb
I'd rather get a nickel back, a decent runningback and a first rounder at this point. I think our running game is going to hurt us all season unless Greene stays healthy and I'm really doubtful on that at this point. If the running game is an issue we are going to be really mediocre this year.
I think you hit the nail square on the head here. Tannenbaum/Woody/Ryan saw the Revis situation coming at them on the horizon and made the right move before Revis started his demands - we just got very lucky with Wilson falling in our laps at 29!
I don't see the point in trading Revis for change, we're never going to get value. Just let him sit 3 years and kill his earning potential for good. That's what he deserves if he won't sign.
I've watched both games a couple times, and he's been pretty solid so far. He's a legit tackler, which I love to see in CBs. But you're right, no one's really tested him yet. The real tests will come vs elite QBs. Eli and Matt Moore for a couple series aren't enough to judge on. McNabb, for more than a half, should be good test for the rook.
If we have a great season that will help us keep them plus they all love playing for Rex. There all not like mevis
We'll see him get tested this Friday against the Skins. Should be a good test too, since they want to test their new QB.
Then were screwing ourselves too...but if we let him sit this year, then trade him off to a crappy NFC team, that wouldn't be so bad....
Agreed. If Cromartie gets a new contract, add that with Wilson's and it will probably still be less than 1/2 of what Revis would want. It may not be the popular move, but they are business men. Tanny is wise beyond his years....
Please list the teams that will be beating down the Jets' door to pay a cornerback 160 million dollars?
/head asplodes So the Jets are somehow going to convince: -a #1 CB -the best center in the league -one of the top ILBs in the league -a first round pick -a second round pick -another quality FA CB -and a #1 WR to take pay cuts ...and then convince another #1 WR to take a paycut and a demotion? Wow.
Yeah it just won't happen unless we get really lucky, and they are willing to accept that, which I doubt Harris / Revis will be signed long term Braylon / Holmes / Cromartie - one will be signed long term other will be franchised ... I guess the other will just be let go, but Tanny will do anything in his power to keep all of them
