Or if you really need to justify it to yourself try looking at it as you make a trillion posts on here and tend to have interesting takes on various things. It's pretty natural that I'd reply more to you than I do to most others when I'm around; if you believe my thought process I spelled out. I cross my heart and hope to die that I never give you a second worth of thought when I'm not skimming through this message board.
With all due respect, until proven otherwise, I am inclined to disagree that Decker is true #1. Even putting aside for the moment HOF lock Manning having a record smashing season last year, Decker also benefited considerably (if not hugely) from having all the top opposing DBs drawn away from him by Demaryius Thomas (Denver's true #1) not to mention the host of other dangerous receiving options the Broncos had in their offensive arsenal like Welker and Julius Thomas. Now, downgrade your QB from Manning to Smith and elevate Decker to drawing coverage assignments from the best man or scheme opposing defenses have to offer and I have my doubts whether Decker can consistently assume the weight of the #1 role in a way one would expect a true #1 WR to be able to. I don't question that he is an excellent receiver. I'm just not convinced that he measures up to the standard of what is generally accepted as being a number 1 receiver.
"true #1 receiver" is an overused and ambiguous phrase. if you mean he's not a beast mode top 10 wr you're absolutely right but you don't NEED to have that as awesome as it would be. By definition Decker is our #1 receiver whether "true" or not.
Anybody but Clyde Gates. After their 4th practice today I read that Rex was talking up Gates crowing that Gates "is all the way back" (from injury). Back TO WHAT? The guy stunk last year. He dropped a TD pass last year against the Pats, and has never shown squat in the regular season. If he makes the team as the 5th receiver, it would be a major blunder by Rex and Co.
Amaro is going to be a huge mismatch as well. We finally have some weapons on offense, and a coach who knows how to use it! Hopefully Geno gets the job done, because we can have a really good offense
I've read people claiming the offense is actually ahead of the defense at this point. If true, wow! Why couldn't we have hired a competent OC prior to MM? Him being here in his 2nd year could end up being huge.
I really don't understand it either. Clyde always has a great TC and makes the roster only to stink it up for the next 17 weeks. It's a broken record. Here's my prediction of the WR depth chart when the season begins. 1 - Decker 2 - Nelson 3 - Kerley 4 - Stephen Hill 5 - Jalen Saunders 6 - Jacoby Ford P1 - Evans P2 - Enunwa That still leaves Saalim Hakim, Clyde Gates out - Hakim is a tough decision.
Decker and Kerley are head and shoulders above any of those other receivers. Nelson is solid. Jalen Saunders is a darkhorse with his speed and shiftiness. Physicality is the biggest question with him. Hill is a pipe dream that I doubt we'll see much of anything from. Enunwa could be a nice H back and safety valve coming out of the backfield running that seam route.
Yeah I agree with you on Gates. He seems to be a practice warrior and we've got other guys with speed that can take the top off now. I find it hard to see how Enunwa and even Evans can crack this WR roster. I agree with your list above except I probably move Ford behind Kerley followed by Saunders and Hill. Salas is my dark horse
