Smith isn't being asked to do too much for the first time in his career. He just has to keep the Niners in games. He's never had to the opportunity to do that.

With that said, you don't draft game-managers #1 overall.

Sam Bradford is in a horrible situation in St. Louis and he won't succeed without help. As of right now, he's an overpaid player playing for the worst franchise in the league. He can't take them to the next level.

Joe Flacco is trash. He is supposed to be a game manager, but when things go bad in games, he implodes. He can't win games. They've given him all kinds of help and he still sucks. He's got a great arm though, so he must be better than Mark Sanchez.

Josh Freeman has all kinds of help. For the first time in a while, that division is sort of up for grabs, and the Bucs won't be the team that takes control. He doesn't have that ability. He's not a winner - never has been, never will be. That team doesn't have the personnel to win with a game-manager. He has to win them games, and he can't do that.

The Jets have sort of become one of those teams where Mark Sanchez can't really manage games anymore. He has to step up and against San Diego and Dallas, he did. He's a winner - always has been, always will be.

That's what sets him apart from guys like Joe Flacco and Josh Freeman. They aren't winners. That's why they weren't at USC. That's why Flacco couldn't start for a subpar college team and went to Delaware. That's why Freeman played for a bottom-feeder Big 12 team.

Take a guy like Aaron Rodgers. Look back at his career before the NFL - he was always a winner. It's not surprising to me to see him play at the level he's playing at. If he keeps it up, he'll be one of the best ever.

I agree. Last season, Philly was awful with Kolb at QB and became 100% better when DogKiller went in. The Cards were stupid to trade for him.

Except Sanchez is not a game manager. Game manager is someone who plays to not lose the game and Sanchez is responsible for numerous 4th q and ot come backs.
