I don't think it's completely outlandish to say Rex could potentially be gone after this year. We'll see how the year goes. There are some positives and negatives with Rex. Personally, I like him a lot. Would I be shocked if he fell on his face? No, but I think there's a better chance of him being coach of this team for the foreseeable future.

And I think his defense is going to take a step up soon. Having Wilkerson and Coples should be a huge plus to the front seven and the pass rush. Either one has the potential to be a Pro Bowler. Coples has more downside, but I like Wilkerson a lot, too.

Coples is a planet player in that there aren't many guys on the planet with his size and athleticism and natural ability. If Rex sticks around, I like Coples's odds of succeeding.

You're smoking crack. Rex is the best thing to happen to the Jets in a very long time and Woody knows it. If we only win 1-2 games two years in a row then its not completely outlandish. But as things stand right now, first two years as our HC leading us to two AFC Championship games which we hadn't done since Parcells in '98 there's no fucking way Rex gets booted unless he shoots someone in a nightclub AND has a losing season.

Talking about Rex getting fired after this season is just simply stupid.

Keeping the thread on topic though, just watched some of the Jets press conference tape and Tanny said one of the things that impressed him was how Mo Wilkerson (who was his teammate at Hargrave) said Coples was a better player than him and a great teammate. So that was encouraging news.

Here is the facts you have Pouha, Wilkerson, Ellis , Coples, Ropati.... Now you get two of the 3 DL to get Double Teamed now that makes it 5 linemen on 3 DL.. You got Maybin going back to OLB or any Player they Pick up in the Draft Vinny Curry Etc and run Rexs Stunts, Overloads, Safety Blitz Packages and we are gonna cause Havoc this year. The 3-4 does do anything without the Front DL being solid. Now if this guy turns out to be a beast like Julius Peppers then everybody who doubted is gonna be eating Crow.

Mixed on the pick. Normally I hate lazy and inconsistent but some guys are so talented that even being lazy they are good enough to do damage in key spots.

    ^^^What Biggs said above^^

Here's ProFootballWeekly evaluation of Quinton Coples:

    Positives:
Excellent size, body length and movement skill. Quick off the ball. Fluid athlete with very good bend, balance and body control. Has outstanding core strength and power and can stack the line and dominate when he wants to. Strong tackler. Made it look easy at the Senior Bowl — uses his hands extremely well to swim, swat and rip past blockers. Good burst to close. Flashes explosive power in his hands — can jolt and jar blockers on contact. Versatile — is effective rushing from the inside or outside, has played everywhere on the line and is capable of doing so in the pros (with the exception of nose tackle).

    Negatives:
Marginal competitor — left a lot of production on the field and does not apply himself. Will let his pads rise and play tall. Does not sell out around piles. Lackadaisical, half-hearted effort and backside pursuit — shut it down as a senior to preserve his body and was playing not to get hurt. Led the ACC in loafs. Marginal 20-yard shuttle (4.79 seconds) and 3-cone time (7.61 seconds) at the Combine. Has a sense of entitlement and too often relies on his natural talent. Immature.

I have to say I'm not exactly thrilled about the above negatives. But after reading some of the posts, maybe the system he was in his last year explains some of that. This guy has immense potential, so we'll have to see.

I'm glad you are such a great talent evaluator and I didn't know the draft ended last night!

Yeah, that sounds pretty good. I don't think Wilk would say that if he didn't mean it.

He obviously has potential, but personally I would've preferred a plug-in-play guy like one of the o-linemen that could've immediately filled a need and still be a top player. not a fan of rd 1 projects....... we'll see

I like it. When Decastro was available at 16 I was really hoping he was the pick. But Coples was the #1 player on their board so they went BPA. If they can make the d-line a strength it makes life a lot easier for the linebackers to get to the QB.

This has probably already been posted, but if not here it is.

Coples has a ton of potential but also has the highest bust potential in the draft. Tannenbaum and Ryan went all in on this one and we will know pretty soon how it turns out.

I'm mentally superimposing Tom Brady into every one of these QB disruptions.

There are very few plug and play guys in the draft. The only sure thing in this draft was the Browns pick and that still depends on him staying healthy. In the NFL it comes down to evaluation and development.

"[Coples] shut it down as a senior to preserve his body and was playing not to get hurt."

I can't help but think of John Abraham when I read things like this.
