Has nothing to do with not getting over a season from 28 years ago. But I remember the changes made at that time -- universally applauded by most Jet fans but not by alot of us who hung out at Hofstra and saw the deterioration up-close -- and I see the changes in the defense and offense and it's clear. Look guys....if the Jets defense turns it around and resembles the last 2 years, and the O-Line starts pushing guys 3 yards off the line, you can throw this thread in my face. In fact, I will happily buy any of you whom I see at MetLife later this year a beer (on me) to make up for wasting your time reading this thread. I sincerely hope I am opening up my wallet for you guys.
No worries and nothing personal. One thing that the last two years has taught me is to look at the glass half full with our current team and coaching staff. It's a lot more fun and I am often pleasantly surprised. Go Jets.
I agree with this I'm optimistic that we'll win one out of the next two games. But I'm already at peace with being 2-3
Sensible post. I'd like to add that the lockout has contributed to the Jets problems but it's happening all over the league. I think Mangold is going to find his way back this week and the Jets stun the Ravens Sunday night. Somebody mentioned it earlier. This team plays much better when the odds are against them. Slowly, the OL will get better. The Jets will split the next two ( beat Ravens lose to the Pats) and enter the easier mid schedule phase at 3-2. I predict they split with the Pats, split with the Bills and sweep the NFC East. I see 11-5 again. And the Jets are built for January. Yes, there are problems but there is too much talent not to get it straightened out.
I'll say the same thing I said last year after people we're on the ledge after the Ravens game. Either you think we have a good roster, and a good staff or you don't. I believe that we do ... and one bad game doesn't change that for me. I can honestly say ... I have no worries about ths team being a 10-12 win team. That means we're going to lose a few along the way.
You're basically giving the Jets about a 20% chance of winning each game - considering that favorites only win about 65% of the time in the NFL, that seems overly pessimistic to me. I would put the chances as closer to 15% for 4-1, 50% for 3-2, and 35% for 2-3, which still corresponds to only 40% chances of winning for the Jets in each game.
Thanks, understood. I'm focusing on the underlying play, not the record now or in 2 weeks. What worried me coming in was that I can recall no team in the NFL consistently fielding a good defense with few stars that employed schemes and stunts and blitzes. Eventually, the league catches up with your lack of talent. I knew going in the D-Line wouldn't get much pass pressure and I knew the LB's were slow. But we are hardly blitzing or pressuring the QB (have to check the pressures/sacks vs. last year's average) and worst of all, we are allowing alot of rushing yards. Yes, it's still early. But I bet you'll hear Rex himself say this week he is VERY concerned.
Rex doesn't have all the players that fits his defensive scheme yet. Aside from Revis and Harris he is rebuilding this defense on the fly. His DL is starting to look good but he still needs outside speed in the front 7 and another safety. On offense Wayne Hunter is just temporary, a OL will be drafted high next year......
Why are people suddenly assuming that the Jets are going to lose to Baltimore and New England like it's some sort of guarantee. If the Jets are guaranteed to lose to those teams, then we should just call it a season already because we shouldn't even be in the discussion for Super Bowl.
How is this any more of a crisis than losing to the Dolphins on MNF Rex's first year. Or losing to the Pats 45-3 last season. In the long run, neither of those losses prevented us from making the playoffs the last two seasons. Thinking something is a crisis when it's really not is exactly the reason why losses snowball for this team.
That team wasn't a Super Bowl contender and we actually played pretty good. Revis got beat on MNF -- you think anybody here or on the Jets thought that would be a recurring problem ? Come on, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that not only are we looking at a very possible 2-3 record, but we are showing some problems that will be CONSTANT throughout the year: (1) NO rushing game (2) Problem with the O-Line (3) No pass rush (4) Problems with the run defense Again...bleep the record, if we had won yesterday I would have posted this same thread and said I feel the problems are such that we're looking at 3-2 and more importantly, problems throughout the year. Let's face it guys...we really should be 1-2.
if sanchez does so well moving the team in the no-huddle / 2 minute offense, why did they wait so late in the game to use it? why spend so much money on holmes and plax , then hardly throw the ball downfield? it's not just the defense that needs an adjustment!
What difference does that make? "Super Bowl contenders" lose to bad teams all the time. The Steelers nearly lost to the Colts last night in addition to the Ravens losing to the Titans and the Patriots losing to the Bills. It's really not surprising considering the shortened offseason resulting from the lockout. We couldn't run the ball to begin the season last year, either. No Mangold. Since when have we had a pass rush? Darren McFadden is good. Then you are a pessimist and a SOJF. The Cowboys outplayed us in the first half and we beat them in the second half. The Raiders were fortunate to get some favorable calls from the refs and they outplayed us in the second half. How should we be 1-2? We are 2-1 and that's all that matters.
Did the Jets cheat or do something to artificially alter the results? Last time I checked they won the game fairly. You may say mistake this or that, but at the end of the day, if no one made mistakes then every game would end 0-0.
I wouldn't call this a crisis, but there are legitimate concerns. This isn't the first time this team has had legitimate concerns, but this is the 1st time we've legitimately gone into a season with Super Bowl expectations, and watching this team play, it's not as good as the team we had last year. That could change, but unless the offensive line starts playing better, I don't see the young players we have that are able to step in and give us a lift. 4-1: 15% 3-2: 35% 2-3: 50%
When we are 4-1 going into the Miami game will you be pounding your chest again, saying you knew all along?
