History really does repeat itself. '81 was before my time but you can swap out the names and plays from all of the memorable games and you have exactly what a not-so-old-timer like myself says about all the classic games I've experienced. Some good, most not good. But somewhat affectionately reminisced nonetheless.
Great pics, junc. That Green Bay game is one of my all-time favorites, I knew he had them from the very beginning.
That GB is one of my all tiem favroues too, I love the 1981 games since it was the first year I could remember watching games. There were so many great ones that year. I love seeing the green Jets helmet in the middle of the Shea grass.
That was the Jet's best defensive line of the post Super Bowl III era. Every player there was an impact player and when the Jets beat people they did it right at the point of attack. The two defensive tackles weighed about 265 and when Klecko played NT he weighed about the same. What a difference HGH has made. Also, notice how none of those guys have a belly hanging out? Those guys were athletes.
yep - anything that ended with "ol" was game. i remember listening to an interview with one of the raiders team physicians at the time and he said alzado used to take many different combos of roids and even some that were used in verterinary medicine.
Sure but players in that era did use PEDs to help them and in 100 years players will still be trying to find a way to get an edge.
I became a fan of the Jets in 1981. Don't remember any specific games but, I'll never forget these guys, Klecko is one of my all-time favorite Jets.
I love that picture, too. You can tell they're ready for business, it's clearly before a game. Walt Michaels was their coach, too, he was an animal when he played.
That line was awesome !!! If #99 would have been able to play the run better they would have been off the charts good. Teams ran rite at him at times but he sure could rush the passer. Always loved Klecko---Marty is a class act and Salam was very very good inside next to these guys. If you guys want to read an old but decent book about roids and the Raiders in particular ( a team I hate but I really enjoyed the book ) go get " Your Ok It's Just a Bruise ". It was written by the Raider doctor and gives lots of insight as to what was going on in those days.
yuo could be right, on other gamesit gives the exact date but on this one it says "circa 1981" so it could be the '80 game.
remember that season very fondly as well. My dad had season tix in th 70's so i went to a lot of Jet games and was a fan...but truth be told back then I was also a Cowboy fan, ya know, the Super Bowls and all.......81 was the season my allegiance went solely to the Jets. I was 12 then and remember the end of that season pretty clearly, the Miami game, the playoff loss......I also went to the Giant game at Giants stadium and sat in one of the luxury boxes (thanks Uncle)....that was an awesome experience, and even better since the Jets won of course
funny that giant game in 81 simms took a beating and u also saw flashes of LT. i believe he was picked 1 spot ahead of mcneil in the draft.
I went to the playoff game that season against the Bills. My dad played on the Super Bowl III team, and when he went to the 10 year reunion they told them then, if the Jets ever made it back to the playoffs, they would fly them back for the game. It was my first NFL game!
You know that sounds familiar...http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1295628&postcount=11
