It doesn't change the fact that I watched that game at a party in a house full of Jet fans. That was a good time... at least it was for me, bro! ...hehe

Did you see Namath on HBO? His one main line in the documentary said it all about him.

Too bad, the Jets probably could have won another SB if he stayed on.

81 and strike shortened 82 were 2 of the best years for me. When Todd hit Barkum to beat Miami in November to take a share of 1st place it was one of the great moments.

As bad as the loss was in the wildcard to Buffalo that year, it is nowhere near the pain of in this order 1) the 82 AFC championship loss to Miami, 2) the 86 divisional loss to the Browns, 3) the 04 loss to Pittsburgh due to Doug Brien

I did see it, I remember Riggins on there but forget what he said. As a kid I was a big Riggins fan, my first little Jets shirt was #44. One of the first games I watched he dragged four defenders down the field with him.

He said when Shae erupted when Joe went back on the feild in 71, he closed his eyes and pretended the cheering was for him.

Oh yeah, I do recall that now.

Funny part about that 1971 SF game, I had never heard about it before but watching the piece I somehow knew we would come up short at the end, even with Joe out there throwing bullets.

Yeah, but in '69 I was too young to be that upset, and we had just won the SB the year before. I figured there'd be plenty more opportunities (boy was I wrong)

In '81, I was happy to see them in the play-offs and I figured there'd be plenty more opportunities (wrong again)

In '04, I never expected them to be where they were and my mind could not grasp the notion that we were going to beat the Steelers, so I kind of expected the outcome and wasn't surprised. Remember, we used up a lot of good luck the week before when we had to win the Charger game 3 times!!!

Once when Eric Barton roughed the passer on the last play, (an incomplete pass) giving Brees a chance to hit Gates for a TD after time had expired
(BTW, imagine if we lost this game, it would've been Browns-Kosar pt.2!!!)

Twice was when M Schotty called time out to ice Brien just as he kicked it through the uprights

Third was the actual kick being good. At that point, I remember thinking, the gods are so against the Jets we have to win a game three times to get credit for it :rofl2: So losing next week didn't hit me so hard.

The '86 Browns loss speaks for itself. I've shown the video of the game to my sons and future S-I-L, all passionate Jets fans, none of whom were alive when the game was played, and they've told me, even knowing the outcome and after hearing my big build-up, they it was incredibly painful to watch.

What bothered me the most about the loss was the 5 game losing streak to end the season after starting 10-1, the derision of all the commentators (like Paul McGuire) trying to make a career on kicking the Jets when they were down, the haughty attitude of the Giant fans, who were streaking and on fire, winning about ten in a row themselves. THe Jets fought so hard to win that game and a win would've wiped away a lot of bad memories. Instead, the loss, especially the way we loss, just doubled them.

I was listening to the WABC feed in protest of NBC's anti-Jets stance and I knew we were doomed when Freeman scored with 3:48 left and Jets announcer Charlie whatshisname said "The Jets are gonna win this game and advance !!"

It was actually Charlie Steiner who made that fateful call on Jets radio

Yes.......goddamnit, I heard him say Jet fans still 'thank' him for cursing the team that day.

Joe Walton -- the fan and press favorite to be HC -- was the real culprit.

It was a pretty famous game at the time. Not quite Joe's last hurrah, but in losing, it gave us an indication that Joe & Jets would never be the same

To tell you the truth, I was listening to the radio & TV too, and I winced when he said it, but I forgot it until after I heard it again after the game

Yep, it's a famous call on all our NFL films highlights. I didn't hear it live but I obviously I've heard it a million times since. On the flip side 5 years later Marty Glickman said the Jets-Dolphins game in the finale was over after marino threw that late TD but we came back to win that one.

Yes I remember that, but if you also remember, Jennings jumped right down his throat and said the game's not over and there's plenty of time left for the Jets to comeback.

Funniest thing about that game was Tom Hammond screaming out "What are they doing Joe" to Joe Willie when McNeil swept around right end, right before he stepped out of bounds w/2 secs left for Allegre's field goal
