they practice in both places but the idea is that the team keep at least some connection to the state of NY
They practice there because of the atmosphere at Cortland. Its a very small town where the players wont lose focus and helps build team comradery. It worked for us last year and will work again. Being from LI, I miss that they dont practice at Hofstra anymore but Cortland was a great idea by Rex
You know it is quite interesting that Woody took around 300M thru the collection of PSLs from the fans to build his 1/2 of the new stadium. However, OTH when it comes to paying money to his players his wallet is shut tighter then a sealed drum of vodka (See Revis-Harris-Mangold). Now down there in Houston Texas the Texans found some way to adjust Johnson rookie contract & in Tennessee the Titans found some way to adjust Johnson rookie contract. Sounds to me that Woody & his partner in crime Tanny are just give us more BS as to why they cannot satisfy those players pay requests. I wonder how all those PSL purchasers feel these days seeing how the team they committed to is not attempting to pay some of there best players the money they deserve. Now some would say that Aso contract was given out by a "crazy" owner. No matter what it is NOW the benchmark for his position so if as everybody says Revis is the best of the best he is entitled to be paid more then all other CBs & it is up to the so called wizard of the cap Tanny to find a way to make it happen. I think the PSL holders will be in a uproar if Woody & Tanny allow this situation to fester into the season & be shown week after week on Hard Knocks
I am a psl holder and agree with what you said except for the Revis remarks. I know theres a thread for this already so this will be my only post here but Revis should not be paid 16 million dollars. That is absurd, just because a shitty team paid Aso that much does not entitle him to the same. Teams that win championships sometimes have to sacrafice a little bit of money (see Pats and Brady). Brady has one year remaining on his contract yet you see him in camp trying to work out a new contract. Revis is holding out with THREE YEARS left on his contract, so he can FEED his family. I have no problem with players wanting to be paid its there every right. However dont insult the new york fan base by saying you need to FEED your family. You have made 16 million in you career so far not including indorsements. Revis is not Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. He cant single handedly win a game by himself. I cant wait to have him back and he is huge in our defense but alot of us Jet fans have lost respect for how he went about his holdout. David Harris and Nick Mangold are both in camp with ONE year remaining. They need to be paid immediately. Once again though we all hate seeing millionaires argue with billionaires
All I am doing is pointing out that under any circumstances Aso contract is now the benchmark for Revises position & Revis has every right to point that out over & over again & I do not begrudge him for getting every penny he can get his hands on because Woody is doing exactly the same thing on his side & he is a BILLIONAIRE! The raping of us fans by him & then sealing up his wallet when it comes to his players smack of a 1st class money grab of the highest order. Thankfully I am ones of those UD guys who would not pay Woody 1 red cent of my money to see a team that has won nothing in the last 41 years
The problem is that Revis is using an "invalid" contract as a benchmark. The Raiders, who were desperate and who are notoriusly poor negotiators, overpaid for the Aso's contract. If they had decided to pay their center $15m per year, would everyone have to pay their center $15m per year? Certainly not. The other issue that is preventing teams from re-upping their guys who have expiring contracts (Manning and Brady) is the lockout. Simply put, everyone expects there WILL BE a lockout next year. If you pay a player a large signing bonus this year, you are effectively: 1. Paying him for games that may not be played next year; and 2. Providing him with a cushion to live on during the lockout. With money in his bank, he will be willing to stay out longer. Signing him to a large, long term deal with a big bonus would be stupid.
Yes Aso salary is now the BENCHMARK for his position Texas & Tenn had no problem redoing the rookie contracts now did they The CBA thingy is terrific excuse for the billionaire owners to keep all the money! BTW rumors have the Brady deal will be complete this week
If you want to use Aso's contract as the benchmark for the position, then you have to include the qualifier that it is at least the "free agent benchmark". But, as we all know, Revis is a long way from being a free agent. If Revis wants to play out his contract for three more years, he can test that benchmark against the open market. But he won't... Revis wants the reward without the risk. It won't happen..nor should it.
I am not HJ this good thread. It is referencing us fans forced to pay for PSLs & Woody taking our $$$$ but OTH he is being a cheap skate & not wanting to pay Revis-Mangold-Harris. Sounds like a major money grab by Woody to me
Harris and Mangold need to be paid! God damn CBA. Whats the percentage there will be a hold out, 85%?
You can say Woody is many things but cheap is not one of them. The first preseason game is fast approaching and I can't wait. We should all take pics from our seats and post the view. I'm curious to see what happens if they're aren't sold out.
Well we all know they haven't sold out (something like 20,000 seats) so yeah, I'm interested too to see how it plays out. They're going to have some sort of individual ticket sale
Nearly a 100% chance of a lockout. The upside for fans: 1. Almost certain that 1 or more preseason games will get killed. 2. They are permanently going to eliminate 2 preseason games in favor of real games.:breakdance:
The preseason game are not really relevant to judging how many seats they really sold. There are people who will just skip PS games and eat the tickets. The Ravens game will be the key indicator.
The Giants/Jets game should be fairly full; however, the Redskins game will be lucky to attract 60K - even if they did sellout. The only reason we are going is 1) we cannot make the Giants games (sending a friend in our place); and 2) I am expecting a baby in Sept and won't get to go to any of the early games. If not for those circumstances, we wouldn't bother with the Redskins game.
Jets redskins But the jets redskins will probably be the most competitive game. I always liked that about the jets giants game being the third preseason game because most of the players played into the third quarter
