I've looked at the Center prospects. Apparently the 2 best Centers are Schmitz from Minnesota and Luke Wypler from Ohio St. Schmitz weakness is pass pro although more of a prospect, Wypler is more polished lacking elite strength. Both guys currently projected rounds 2-3. Sign me up for Wypler the last Center from Ohio St we took worked out great. Thinking about the WR room we have our dawg in GW, Eli a slot guy, we need two types a tall 6'3 and taller possession type and a home run hitter to get over the top. Both these types are routinely drafted in rounds 3-5. Get rid of Berrios or keep him as strictly the return man. He brings nothing to the WR corps #13- Paris Johnson OT #44 - Luke Wypler C 3rd- Tall possession WR 4th - home run hitting WR 5th & 6th - some combo of DT, S, ILB depth and QB project
That’s why we drafted Mims. A lot of heat on Douglas for missing on Mims and most prospects he drafted.
Mims was a bad miss. You see it on GameDay, lots of drops, poor routes, very stiff, not in the place the QB expects him to be. Were these deficiencies in his draft scouting report I wonder.
Douglas is not a good GM. Sauce and Wilson were gifted to us from teams taking Stingley and London lol. Maybe it is hard to scout.
If Trenton Simpson is available, I'd have a hard time passing on him even with our OL issues. Our D needs a sideline to sideline LB.
Was just watching a few clips on him. Wow. I really want OL, but I don't think I would hate this pick.
Right now I really like Peter Skoronski if he's there at 13. Three-year, high-end starter at LT who can also project to other positions. And good recent pedigree from Northwestern (Ra'Shawn Slater who also had the short arms knock was picked 13th in 2021 and has been great). Somebody with a high floor for the OL sounds fantastic to me
If we trade two first for Lamar. Who are we targeting in round 2? I look at the ravens and the freaking bengals with a makeshift OL, Morgan Moses starting at RT lol. I wonder if we go after best available IOL if we can and bank on Becton and Mitchell or a FA vet like Moses. Not sure how the Tackles are in round 2
Torrence is the guy. If we can trade back and get him im all for it https://www.draftdive.com/ocyrus-torrence-scouting-report/
Trade the pick down to recoup some value. Not too far down but enough that we get at least a 4th and a 6th back in the deal. From the mid-teens early 20's take an OT or a high-value conversion candidate to C (Skoronski is a prime example.) Use the extra picks to take a RB or TE and another lineman for depth.
I think I would prefer a trade back this year. We need more weapons on offense. Clearly. However. If forced to stay put. I'm taking Jaxon Smith Njigba. He Is the best WR In this draft, not even close, and he Is of the same mold of Jamar Chase for the Bengals. Literally, they are so comparable It's insane. If he Is there and we don't trade back, It would be a mistake to pass on him. IMO
I agree 100% as you saw during the season they were doubling down on Wilson. Defenses are going to shit on their pants if we draft Jaxon.
There Is a lot of good linemen In this draft. Depth Is really good. Plus. It's far easier to find OL upgrades through FA and Draft, than It Is to find blue chip players that have significant impacts on the field. OL needs to be upgraded but It's not something that HAS to happen In the 1st round either. Matter of fact, I think our GM needs to earn his stripes this off-season and find us a quality starter along the OL In the later rounds, good GMs do It all the time. Why not, JD? I'd like to see It.
