With that logic why do they bother leaving the division? Dump the Wild Card make 2 divisions and just make everyone just play 162 divisional games. The entire arguement is to actually play everyone an equal # of times(aside from the 1 extra interleague series) so there can be no complaints about who they played because 143(16 in division & 3 rivalry which are the only ones that are different) of those games are equal with everyone else in the league vs. the uneven scheduling within and outside the division in which there is only about 78/90(13/15 teams at least 6 times) or so games that everyone gets in the league. Edit: The new numbers in the earlier post still match what I have here
I actually don't mind the concept of playing in the division less, I was more talking about playing the rest of the league, your suggestion places so much of the attention with playing in another league that it removes a lot of the factor of playing the rest of your own league excluding the division My thought is that by reducing interleague play it reduces the effect of the unbalanced schedule. The way they even do it now doesn't even make sense to me, it is one thing if they have it like the NFL, but they don't even do it like that.
That's fine. You have your opinion on which style of baseball appeals to you. Me personally, I'd rather have a guy coming up in my 4 spot who I have confidence will drive in a run, rather than a pitcher coming up, who I may have to pinch hit for, or waste an out with a bunt to get a #8 hitter over so that my #1 hitter can drive him in from second. They are distinctly different styles of play, and that's why I prefer that both leagues keep their rules as is. Neither is better than the other. They just appeal to different audiences.
I really don't see the problem, the NBA does it and their playoffs are not ruined because of it and the same with the NHL. I don't know about you but I'm sick of seeing the same freaking teams every other week. In a 4 week span the Red Sox only played 4 teams(divisional games), that is freaking boring and I'd rather see other teams rather than the same old shit over and over again
The NBA has a playoffs that has forever and half of the league goes so the NBA likewise the NHL isn't a good comparison, to me while interleague play has brought up natural rivalries across league lines it has in effect killed non-divisional rivalries. I'd rather play the Cubs/Cardinals more then subject myself to seeing my team play the Twins and the A's for the prospect of basically a money grab. And while playing the Yankees is interesting every year, playing the Royals of the world doesn't.
True, but at the same time, more games in the NL also means more games against the Pirates of the world.
While that is true, that would also still be more relevant than playing the Royals, Devil Rays, or any other team in the AL sans maybe the rivals.
