I found him to be overrated and was pleased when Oakland drafted him.

Now I am hearing he's not doing too well so far. I realize that may change once training camp and preseason games start.

But right now, Donte Whitner looks to be the better 1st round safety selection.

I don't know what you were hearing but it was probably ART shell question and answer session.(your refering too) Will get back to that later.

Everything from minicamp has been positive . Every raider player has commented on how impressive M huff and thomas howard have been in camp. Raiders expect those two to be impact players next season. Here what Sapp said on NFL Network.
He also spoke very highly off Huff and Howard and the D.

He said Huff is everything and some. He was amazed at how effortlessly he runs around and gets himself in the right position. He was in awe watching him when he first came in.

As for Howard he stated that is one fast dude. He stated he's got to be the fastest LB he's ever played with. He said he just sucks up field and closes holes as fast as anyone he's played with.
LB D CLark talking to his friend(dirty south) on Raider board. Here his comments
I asked him what he thought about the defense. He was like "Man, it is scary how fast we are going to be. He said, all the LB's are rotating at all the LB positions and no is safe from there jobs being took, including me." This why he said he lost a lot of weight to increase his speed and Stamina. He was pretty ripped. He said, "Dog, I like that Thomas Howard Dude he is a Beast, and Fast as Hell. "The dude is just nasty", "I really can't wait to see this kid in pads."

Speaking of pads, he said Tyler Brayton had the best camp this past weekend on the defensive side of the ball. That dude is very intense. If he can do in pads what he does in shorts, then he could be something special. He said L. Johnston will be our 3rd down DE specialist.

I asked about Huff and he said, "man the dude is so smoove, he's like Randy Moss on Defense, in that he does things so effortlessly." He said, "Huff has great instinct when the ball is in the air, and he should make a lot of plays. He said, "Man, that dude can cover a lot of ground quickly on a football field ."

Thats the kind of sentiment from alot of players that saw Howard and Huff in minicamps.

Now getting back to ART shell question and answer. He gave starting JOB(heading into camp) rookie Tackle Paul MCquistan the RG Job and rookie Thomas howard the WLB job. Yet he didn't name Huff the projected starter on defense. WHY???? Simple Raiders are still formulating where M huff will play. Huff can play anywhere in the secondary and its where the raiders are going to get the most bang for their buck. There more a question of where Huff will be starting than if. If Huff dosen't win the DROY than maybe his teammate Thomas Howard was a big reason why that is so.

I hope they don't start, so I'm not sure if you were trying to be funny or facetious or what. But no silly :rofl2: I'm talking about your man crush of the month Michael Huff.

OH you mean Michael"DROY" Huff you can't win the DROY if your not a starter. So we just have to wait for Huff to prove me right.

    um. what?

So you're saying Huff will win DROY yet agreeing that he won't be a starter while also arguing that you can't win the award without starting. I think all that lead based face paint is getting to your head RaiderJoke.

Well I don't necessarily believe he will be starting somewhere because I heard he wasn't from everyone except you. And your name is RaiderJoke, you just had a typo when you signed up.

Okay rambo stop listening to the voices in your head. They aren't real. Unless you have a source, than keep your conversation you had with your little friend Barney, to yourself.

I'd be very surprised if Huff doesn't turn into a quality NFL player, he's exactly the type of Safety that translates very well to the NFL. Whether it's as a Free Safety or either spot in a Cover 2 (I really have no idea what Oakland runs, though I did hear something about having him as a Rover in a 4-2-5), he's got speed, coverage ability, and can tackle very well. Off the top of my head, he's definitely on the list of the ten best safeties I've personally seen at the college level, no reason that he can continue that.

for clarification, the bump is because of the thread with the rumor stating Michael Huff to be cut?

Also at this point just about everybody in the thread was way off the only guy with star studded numbers to this point in their careers is Mario Williams, and oddly enough, I put Mangold in the category just below Mario for on the HOF pace, simply because this drafts top rounds have proven so far to be horrendous as far as HOF talent is concerned.

Note: i am not saying Mangold is going to the HOF, just that i think he is one of the top 3 at his position in the NFL, in year 3, so if he were to hold this position or get even better over the next 8-12 years, he could potentially be voted into the HOF.
