How many elite young kickers are out there, exactly? Kaeding blew the Chargers game against us years ago, Scobee has a stronger leg but routinely makes mistakes as well. Who else is there, Dave Rayner, the Packers rookie, I have no idea how he's doing. The problem is he never seems to be prepared for the conditions of the game. Whether it be the wind, the mechanics of kicking the ball, well, basically the mechanics of kicking the ball. He does sometimes kick it as far as he should, but something's just wrong with his head where he can't do it efficiently. That or maybe you'd like to investigate Ohio State for having a magnet in the ball that attracted it over the goal posts so much, and made him a hero there.
Bottom line.....we need a kicker. Just like Brien, our current kicker can't reach from 50. Forget where he was drafted, who drafted him, or any of that stuff. We're past the previous regime and thinking in terms of the future. We may have to win a game on a 50+ yard attempt one of these days. Other teams do it. If you can't reach from there, you will NEVER make it. To be able to make it, first you have to be able to reach. Nugent can't reach. We need a kicker.
