When was the last time Belichick said he was taking over play calling duties? How many coaching changes have the Patriots had that didn't involve the coach himself going to another team? The point is: everything evolves from the head coach down, if the head coach doesn't know what his underlings are doing, it's long past time for the head coach to go. Ron
How do we turn this around? Do what they did today! Have Bowles keep calling the "D". Bates continue to ope up the play book for Sam.
Nothing is going to get fixed in-season, but this team can be a solid playoff team next year ... 1. Fire the General Manager. He's been here long enough to realize that his player drafting has been downright awful, 2. Fire the Head Coach. Bowles is terrible. He's a defensive "expert" whose defense doesn't work unless you have five Pro Bowlers in the secondary playing man coverage and can simply have the remainder of team blitz every down. Six year old's can design schemes like that. 3. Hire a new head coach that has been a successful head coach in the NFL somewhere else previously. They don't necessarily have to have won a Super Bowl, but they do have to have made the playoffs. They don't grow on trees, but with Darnold, the Jets should be an attractive landing spot. 4. Hire an offensive co-coordinator that runs the West Coast offense - the two guys in the league that are tailor-made to coach a Darnold-led offense are Pete Carmichael and Darren Beville. But I'd throw a truck full of money at them with a "head coach-in-waiting" understanding. 5. For the next two years, use your top draft choices and a significant portion of your free agent money on offensive linemen. In two years, the goal should be to have the best offensive line in the league.
I think this is key. Yesterday proved to me that Bowles needs to take over as DC. The defense looked night and day compared to games past. He may be a bad head coach but he was a very good defensive coordinator with Arizona. I think he needs to be more involved
so basically 2 and 3 happened yesterday and we kicked ass. who would have thought? lol 4 didn't need to happen because we dominated the game and basically ran out the clock in the 2nd half
