Looking at the combine results, I think it will be a big mistake to blow one of the 1st or 2nd round picks on a QB. Even on Simpson. At 6-1 211lb he was injured multiple times during the only year he started. Nuss is even smaller and also was injured. It will not get easier in the NFL. 1st two round is where you need to shoot for a starter. I just don't think these guys are it. This is a one QB draft. In the 4th round if you want to get a long term cheap back-up to develop, sure. But I think it will be a mistake to invest top 44 pick into the QB this year. And I know we may not even be in position to draft a good QB next year, depending on how the season goes, but that doesn't mean we should waste assets this year on inferior prospects. We need to spend 1st two rounds getting starters at other positions. And then hopefully we can find a way to get a better shot at a starting QB next year.

I was watching the WR's running their different routes and the QB's that were throwing to them. I was fairly impressed with Drew Allar and Jalon Daniels. Live arms, the ball popped and had decent placement. Of course, all in shorts with no rush but, at the very least, their arms looked good. At least there are a couple of decent "camp" options for Day 2 or 3.
The minute I saw Anthony Richardson anywhere but dead last was the minute this list became a joke. That kid should NEVER have been drafted as a QB. Maybe drafted as an athlete but he had no business being drafted as an NFL QB. Same goes for Trey Lance. Zach Wilson needs no description. Is anyone seeing a pattern here? Nearly HALF these guys should have been, at best, taken in the 2nd round or lower. Personally, I feel the Vikings just had their "Jets" moment when shippind Darnold out. They'll be drafting a QB in the first round next year along with a bunch of others. Blown away how Minny made a QB decision based upon a kid's performance in Pre-season. Let's see here, McCarthy, Lance, Richardson, Fields, Wilson, Penix & Pickett. 2 shy of 50% of those listed QB's. Richardson & Fields could have careers, probably very good careers, in the NFL if they agreed to a position change. The others will be lucky to be career backups. Wilson, Lance and Pickett should already be out of the league. We'll see what happens to Mac Jones once the Shanahan reclamation project is done. Something is nagging me that he never leaves San Francisco. Purdy has missed significant time and it's well documented how much Shanahan wanted him. The rest, time will tell. Penix is a sad story, he's going to end up being one of those poor kids where injury derails his career, I fear. Shame.
This list is a total joke. Justin Fields at 12, Dart at 17, Pickett 18 and Zach 6? Rubbish. Put Fields and Zach at the bottom, and start all over.

Totally agree. But why even waste picks on a QB in 2027. They Jets have proven they cannot draft and/or develop a QB. Mark Sanchez...proved he could win, only 8 QBs have more road playoff wins. The Jets make him compete for his job after going 33-29 in 4 years WITH 4 road playoff wins. The Jets...nah, we could do better, lets make him compete for his job. Ends up hurting his shoulder and ruining his career while playing with backup OL in pre-season. Geno Smith, a proven decent NFL QB. The Jets ship him out. Sam Darnold. Had all the arm talent, size, athleticism you want from a QB. Drafted and started him as the youngest QB ever to enter the NFL. Jets give up on him after 3 seasons after surrounding him with garbage coaching and players, Crowder was his top WR in his last year as a Jet. obviously Super Bowl capable QB. Zach Wilson. a complete joke of a draft selection. The Jets CANNOT draft a QB. ever. The Jets would be better off overpaying Malik Willis on a 2 year guarantee money deal, say 2 years 65M guaranteed. If he stinks, it just cost Woody Johnson money and the Jets can still draft a QB in the 2027 draft. Or maybe, he doesn't suck and the Jets can have a QB AND all their draft picks.
Agreed. I caught most of the Qbs throwing segment. Simpson (to my football talentless, untrained eye) looked impressive. I'll still be upset if Jets draft him in round 1.
Day 2 means 2nd round pick for us. I would be against it. Day 3, you want to take these guys to be a camp arm and have Reich try to develop them into cheap back-ups, sure. But 1st or top half 2nd round need to be spent on someone with a decent shot to be a long term starter, and I just don't see it in any of the guys aside from Mendoza.
Personally, I'd argue Mendoza is worth a 1st round grade but that's been beaten to death. It is what it is. I'd wager, 2 or 3 years from now, Mendoza is going to make that list in the other thread but in a very different way. I'm aware that there's nothing worth drafting above 3 but we have to do something or it's Fields et. al in 2026 all over again.
yeah too many of these kids are athletes not really "QB's" Richardson is a great example. as for Penix, honestly I only watched him in the playoffs when he was there and I was not impressed...I think he played Michigan if I recall, and he didn't pop out to me at all...he's one of those that I watched using my (admittedly very narrow!) gauge of "great players play great in big moments", and I didn't think he did...I remember the talk about how Michigan was a great D and all, but I was like, well shit, the NFL defenses will be better. I don't know, I didn't come away wanting us to draft him and I'm glad we didn't. I just don't think he'll develop into a top QB, injuries or no
Ty Simpson checked a lot of boxes for me with matching his play/tape and combine. He’s a good player man. Very clean prospect, excellent FBI, live arm, gamer mentality. I’m fine with him at 16 and letting him play. I usually am an advocate to not put a 1 year starter in right away but I think he needs to play and not sit again. He’s sat for 3 years in an excellent program. yes, I do believe next years draft will be better but nothing is guaranteed. If Ty is there at 16 I think it would be difficult to pass on him.
I agree. There are likely scenarios where, in the next few years, a twenty-six or twenty-seven year old QB is playing for a team in the CFB playoffs.
Based on credentials, I'm the last guy to give advice on drafting QBs, especially on this forum where there are a ton of really smart guys But, as a long time fan, I have seen many, many times teams talk themselves out of guys based on legitimate weaknesses in a player, only to see that guy succeed because the team drafting them either (a) found a way to hide that weakness or at least get more positive than negative out of them, or (b) not rush the guy into starting so they could develop their game In addition, I have seen many times where a guy gets drafted at the top because he came from a top program that was stacked, typically ahead, could win with defense too etc. (i.e., many factors leading to his success) I'm not saying this is the case in this draft, but I do remember everyone being hypnotized with Trubitsky and thinking Mahomes and Watson were project, reaches etc. Also recall Josh Allen being a big question mark because of competition etc. Just scrolling through draft history there are many examples where the best QB was not the first QB (also many duds to be sure) I'm all for drafting a QB relatively high, and continuing to do so until we find our guy, and probably continuing to do so after to keep a pipeline going Perfection is the enemy of the good. Convincing ourselves not to draft a guy because he is not a sure fire Brady 2.0 (pun intended) leaves many QBs (e.g., Bo Nix) capable of winning football games to other teams. My hope is Mougey and his team know how to spot talent.
I’m really split down the middle on this. Like I said above and like you just mentioned, there is a ton to like about the Ty Simpson tape and he backed it up at the combine. But his size is a concern and I think he needs a lot of work to be ready. Shades of throwing Zach Wilson out there even though I think Simpson is the far more cerebral quarterback and has a way higher football IQ. But are we the franchise that’s going to develop him properly? Really hard to justify my mind using the 16th pick on him but he also won’t be there at 33.
