Yeah we all know dude lol. He’s just not that type of prospect. He has a pretty high floor as having a 10 year career as a backup if he fails as a starter. He’s a smart, heady player who doesn’t have physical gifts he can rely on. Richardson was a projection of what he could be without much of anything good on film. I didn’t agree with it and like @stinkyB just said, anyone who watched him play for Florida knew he was a 4th round project. Way different than Mendoza. Why are you so sure anyways? Didn’t you say you haven’t watched him?
Can't wait for this game. Between him and Simpson chances are relatively high a future Jets QB will play in that game.
Watching Dante Moore highlights, doesn’t it seem like his release is slow? He’s got a weird hitch in his throw
Mendoza is a great college Qb, but does not have an elite NFL arm or athleticism so ceiling might be a bit limited for the first player taken. He's being elevated due to leadership, accuracy and intangibles but make no mistake this a bad Qb class. Not sure you reach/over pay for him. Maybe Moore is your guy, but Idk... Sadly, there is no Josh Allen, Drake Maye type prospect in this draft. For me, if Mendoza doesn't fall to the Jets, then trade for Mac Jones, build a team around him and draft a Qb next year. Still does not preclude you from drafting a Qb in round 3+ this year (Nussmeir, Allar, Mateer, Sorsby (if he declares), etc.)
No Jet fan has ever seen a college QB prospect they liked. All it takes is one bad game, or even one ugly throw in one game, and 90% of the Jet fans want nothing to do with him. Every year, this fanbase declares the next QB class to be weak and insists that they Jets not waste a pick on a QB, pick up a cheap journeyman placeholder for the year, and wait until the NEXT draft, which has better QBs.
Josh Allen was picked outside of the top 10. Total mystery in college and unknown in a sense. Have to tip your cap to Buffalo, from Daboll, to Ken Dorsey, to Brady. They have developed him so well. Something we could never do.
He was picked 7th, and his draft profile was that he had the highest ceiling and lowest floor of all the prospects.
wasn’t that he was a total mystery most other GMs just wouldn’t of reached that high on a player with that low of a floor and high ceiling talent because he played at Wyoming I believe it was. So yes they deserve credit for that pick but they saw the tools needed to make him a good player. One was his accuracy was a big issue in college I think under 60% from what i remember. But his athleticism was always there
If that were the case he never would have been drafted. It is mind blowing to me how some of these NFL people call themselves professional. Anyone with half a shred of high school football acumen KNEW Anthony Richardson wouldn't amount to shit.
You are correct. I had not watched him. So, I did what I always do. I spent nearly 6 hours watching entire quarters of Mendoza's games on YouTube. Any QB that supposedly projects as a top draft pick I do my due diligence if I haven't watched many games. Sorry my man but this kid is going to crash and burn at the NFL level when you factor in where he's going to get drafted. Now, if he were drafted in the 3rd round and projected to be a medium starter/career backup I'd have a different take. Considering he's going 1, 2 or 3 he better be lights out. Which, I don't think he will be. The teams that are going to be drafting a QB are the teams that are perennial doormats. Raiders, Jets & Browns ALL EAT mediocre QB's for breakfast. In the Jets case, when we DO have QB talent there isn't enough patience to enjoy that talent (see Darnold, G. Smith). Mendoza doesn't strike me as the kind of kid who is capable of putting an entire team on his back and just roll. Hey, I could be wrong and would love to be wrong but I don't think I am. I will tell you this, though, I have a hell of a lot better track record of picking QB's to be successful than do the Jets. In fact, I'd wager MOST people on this board have a better track record than the Jets. Which is mind boggling when you think about it. Aren't THEY supposed to be the professionals while we are just "fans?"
Josh Allen in a way better Qb draft (3 selected before him) was selected 7 despite crappy college stats, questionable accuracy and perceived inability to process/read a defense. His arm, size and athleticism were off the charts. Mendoza is in a class himself. The Raiders know this and are tanking. There is no other Qb worth drafting in round 1.
Moore a 2 year starter in a gimicky quick tempo, misdirection/screen offense. Feasted on bad defenses, played poorly vs good defenses. Give me Simpson before him, but use the Colts pick.
I can't help but feel like Moore and Simpson are the type of prospects fans talk themselves into when it becomes clear they aren't getting the #1 guy. Such is life when you can't tank correctly.
