This is more 2027 but CJ Bailey looked great with a diverse skillset against Memphis in a useless bowl game today. He’s a baller. Arrived at NC State as a 17 year old freshman last year and put 35 on 14th ranked Clemson in his first ever road start against a power 4 school. I expect him to be a first round pick in 2027.
Here’s my take on Mendoza. I like his size, his arm talent is strong but not a canon. His accuracy is definitely the best part of his game. He throws with good anticipation and has nice touch. What I find troubling is his lack of athleticism and most of all he takes a lot of sacks especially on 3rd down when his first read and check down is covered. He needs to be able to process the game faster. Personally I think he’s going to the raiders and if they are smart they keep Geno and let Mendoza develop behind him as they are very similar quarterbacks. In fact Geno is my comp for him mixed with Joe Flacco.
Great game by Simpson today. And this is in spite of numerous drops and decent amount of pressure against a very good defense. Impressive performance. Still a 1st round pick if he declares. Probably top half of the first round.
I really didn’t think he looked all that good. He got bailed out big time by Garmie Bernard on 3rd down on that catch that for whatever reason they decided not to review. Ryan Williams had a big drop down the sideline. That’s the only one I can remember but maybe there were a few more. He played from a clean pocket most of the second half and Alabama badly out coached Oklahoma. They started throwing short stops for 5-6 yards on early downs to combat the pressure and then suddenly Oklahoma’s defense shriveled up. I have no fucking clue what Oklahoma’s defensive back was doing on the left corner touchdown to Brooks. https://x.com/GL8BAL_SPORTS/status/2002219141269488116?s=20
That was a 50/50 ball he threw up with defender turned, I would not call it a bail out. But there were some high level throws, and I don't have the stats but he was pressured a lot. Also how many dropped balls were there? He has solid arm too, there were some good throws to opposite hash. Didn't see INT worthy throws. And you have to factor in the quality of the opponent. This was a good day for him. Let's see what happens, I am not saying I want Simpson on the Jets, particularly if he measures short, but he seems like a decent 1st round prospect.
This wasn’t a bail out dude? https://x.com/CFBReport/status/2002229292038500400?s=20 If the corner has any sort of ball skills it’s an easy interception. He didn’t turn around once. And the corner touchdown to Brooks is knocked down if the corner doesn’t inexplicably try to tackle the pylon instead of play the ball.
I have some mixed emotions about Simpson. I certainly see a lot of flashes of a more immature Daniel Jones. He was decent given time, with some big throws, but my gut says he needs one more year to hone his skills at the College level. IMO he did not seem to have very good pocket awareness at times and didn’t know where the pressure was coming from. A few of his long throws looked a little suspect, and would have been batten down or intercepted versus good CB. The Oklahoma CB play was a little bizarre. I would say his receivers impressed me at catching some tight contested balls. In short, he would not be day one starter for the Jets, and if we were to force that, as we have done in the past, he would be another victim of our CS inability to develop a rookie QB properly.
Come on, you can't watch this play and say this was INT worthy throw. This was a 50/50 ball. It was a good decision and a decent throw. And that's what you do, you put defenders in tough spots and sometimes they make a play and sometimes not, in the NFL too. Simpson did that. Plus MANY throws that were dropped. It was a good day for the guy.
I don’t have a dog in this argument, but part of being a great QB is recognizing that a Defender has his back turned the wrong way. All elite QB’s take advantage of that. Not saying Simpson is elite, just saying there’s alot more to throws like that than thinking it was just a WR bailing a QB out of a bad decision.
Idunno dude. I don’t think a 15 yard fade ball that was wildly under thrown (basically right to the defender) is a good throw. It’s not a bad decision in one on one man coverage. It’s a horrible throw though.
I don’t think it was a bad decision. I think it’s a horrible throw that his receiver bailed him out of.
Ehhh, it’s not a great throw but also not horrible. It’s a designed throw to go behind the receiver with the defender’s head turned the wrong way. The point is to give your receiver a chance or draw the PI.
That’s not necessarily true. If he throws the ball ahead of Bernard he probably catches it walking into the end zone. Fade balls can be thrown ahead if the receiver has a step. This also wasn’t a 40 yard deep throw with a lot of room. To say it’s “designed” that way ignores the fact that if the receiver wins at the LOS (which he did) you throw it to the pylon. It’s a bad throw.
Horrible to me in this case is INT worthy, I think this was not great, but I do like a decision and would not call it horrible. He made many other plays though, a lot that should have been caught.
It was INT worthy but we’re not going to agree I guess. Also - if you’re telling me he purposely threw it behind him like that, it’s even worse. Bernard had the corner beat.
Bernard is a tremendous wide receiver and so is Ryan Williams on the other side. Simpson is so overrated
Dante Moore absolutely cruised against James Madison. But it’s hard to love it cause it was basically a “B” team. There were some nice throws though
