Yeah I mean Glenn doesn’t look very good at this point but Soxx spiking the football while advocating heavily for Pete Carroll in a million other threads including one this week seems like an unforced error by an all time troll.

The guy despises Aaron Glenn. It's a white hot hatred at this point.

I strongly preferred Flores, Vrabel or McCarthy over Carroll. I did not want a head coach with zero experience so I would have taken Carroll over Glenn. I mostly pushed for Flores because Vrabel went to New England. McCarthy came up late but once he did I wanted him over Glenn but it was late and I believe the Jets had made up their mind at that point.

We agree on Glenn being a shit choice from the beginning, but I disagree with your reasoning. Basically you are willing to take any guy who was a head coach before, and Glenn is a wrong choice because he didn't. But that logic is clearly flawed, because we just saw Liam Coen and Ben Johnson do well as 1st time coaches. So, the fact AG was not a HC before by itself is not a disqualifier.

Like here you are specifically mentioning Vrabel, Rex, and yes, Carroll:
    https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/fire-robert-saleh-now.100353/page-11#post-4414511

Even the Jets wanted Vrabel, we had no chance at him. But Rex and Carroll were realistic and I think these are awful choices. You are willing to bring in total dinosaurs just because they coached before. Carroll just shit the bed even worse than AG, which I didn't think was even possible. And Rex is not a serious candidate. There is a reason why he had no interviews except with the Jets. It's been over a decade since he was a coach. We need innovative creative mind to be the next coach, not some dinosaur, just because he coached before, and Pete Carroll being even worse than AG is a great example of that.

The fact the best offensive guy they interviewed was Bobby Slowik who was almost immediately after FIRED as OC is too much stupidity to bear. It is unfathomable really. Liam Coen I think could have been had. Everything I am reading is basically he wanted Ben Johnson money (12 mil a year) and a say in the GM, basically the same thing Woody gave AG, though AG got 10 according to Dick Chimney. Coen was perfectly fine to go back to the Bucks, who offered him a massive raise. He even committed to them, but reneged before he officially signed when Khan offered him 12 mil and fired his GM. The thing is, Khan was late in doing it and was still able to get him last second, while we were early had plenty of time. We could have easily secured Coen before Khan decided to fire his GM.

While Ben Johnson was never an option, Coen was truly the one that got away: an innovative offensive mind, who is smart and connected to actually bring in a good defensive coach too. In a sense that we could and should have had him, but what really bothers me to this day is that we didn't even consider him. We interviewed failed OC Slowik instead as the best offensive option. I recently came across this ESPN segment of Jake Asman, whom we discussed earlier, and Tanny, who led this search. Jake basically bitch slapped Tanny like a total fool, with Tanny trying some nonsensical arguments and not able to focus on the point numerous times. It's then I realized Tanny may be as stupid as Woody himself, and he led our search. He did have Spielman to help him, but still, listen to this guys, if you have some time and let me know what you think about Tanny.

Did anyone here even bring up Liam Coen though? Maybe they did and Glenn appears to be a dud. To everyone’s credit basically no one here wanted Glenn.

The fawning over Johnson and Coen is a bit much though. And I’m not trying to single you out but let’s see what they do moving forward.

Both teams have an extremely high takeaway rate at this moment which is generally unsustainable.

It’s simple as this- If a team like ours is hiring a 1st time HC, it has to be an Offensive guy. Not just because of the way the game has changed, but because you need intelligence and continuity on the offensive side of the ball coming straight from the top. When Ben Johnson or Liam Cohem lose their OC to a new team, it’s not going to have much effect on the QB or offensive program. If our offense somehow performed or performs great, Engstrand is gone and he’s taking his best guys with him. We’re left with Glenn having to hire a new crew, and in turn the QB and offense has to learn a new offense. There’s no continuity. When you have a very established veteran QB, you can hire a 1st time HC that is a Defensive guy. But if you’re developing a QB it’s just a terrible decision hiring a 1st time defensive HC.

Yes, people here did bring him up. Here is one example: https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...jets-gm-hc-search.100600/page-11#post-4439404

Again, not saying it had to be him, but many here wanted good offensive candidates LIKE Coen interview, and yet the best one was Slowik, who literally was fired as an OC after we interviewed him.

Also are you sure, JV, no one was in on Glenn? :)

It's not that everyone here was clamoring for Coen or anything, it's that we didn't even interview him.

I'm not going to act like I knew Coen would be a good coach or anything, I had no clue. But not interviewing a guy like that is damning in hindsight and speaks to how poorly our search was run.

I went and looked at the AG announcement thread and there were a few people being positive but it was mostly neutral to negative - I found my own post on that thread and so far it seems to be holding true:

"we were never going to attract any of the really hot prospects as we don't have a young QB with potential which any HC knows they need to have if they are going to have a chance of success (and knowing that teams with a top tier QB almost never sack their coach as they are usually winning plenty of games) - don't hate the choice but absolutely nothing to get excited about - especially given how bad the team is. He is basically starting from ground zero and given it is going to take 3-5 years minimum to turn this team around (unless we somehow fluke into the next Mahomes in the draft which will never happen) which means he is almost certain to be fired after 2-3 years when we continue to suck.

I wish I could hope he does well but this team just sucks all the hope out of you - I'll instead expect the worst and wait to be proven right.

That Glenn announcement thread is brutal lol. It's 80% negative on the hire with a lot of posters being Nostradamus predicted this cluster fuck perfectly. Unreal how often the fans get it right more than the owner lol, this hire was destined for failure and we knew it.

It should not take 3-5 yeas to turn the team around. So, not really sure if what you said is holding true, or Glenn just sucks, which is why it is taking time. I think it's the later because he is a defensive coach and defense sucks, that has nothing to do with the QB, where I agree we have to get one. But given the defense is atrocious too, I think it is more on Glenn why the team sucks, not this 3-5 year process you speak of.

The Jets also did the half in/half out bullshit. Why wait til mid-season to try to turn the roster over? Why extend Sherwood and Sauce in the offseason? Why add Fields especially at the number you got him at?

They should’ve ripped it down in the offseason and gotten 2025 draft picks.

I said 3-5 years because we don't have a QB and didn't have one you could be excited about heading into year one of the new regime - I was expecting them to draft someone in 2026 (or possibly 2027) - you cannot achieve success in this league without a decent QB and most QBs struggle out of the gate (not all, but most) - hence even if we hit on a QB in 2026 it was/is likely to be a 3+ year process from the end of the 2024 season before this is a team you could possibly get exicted about.

I know we need a QB, but at the same time we can evaluate Glenn even without a QB and see that he sucks. Your point was that it will be minimum of 3 years before we have a high level play at QB, but it does not mean the defense should get worse too. But I agree in general that a good QB will helps attract a coach. Which is why ever since it was clear we were not making play-offs I have been saying we need a high pick to draft a QB with the best possible probability to be good. I was not excited to get 2 special team wins like some others, because it hurt our draft position and until we get a good QB, it will be same shit again and again and again.

I have now drastically lowered my expectations, given the shit coach we are dealing with. They used to be to compete for play-offs. I am now taking a longer term view. The objective of entire Glenn tenure, which hopefully will end soon if we do not compete for the play-offs next year, is to get a good QB. If this can be done, it's a step in the right direction. Anything above that is a cherry on top. Get a good QB, and that's it. Then if we continue to suck and Glenn is fired, just pray that Woody maybe gets Brick involved who will somehow stumble into someone good next time.

It's not the same. Other teams can take risk with first time coaches. The Jets absolutely cannot and were in no position to take the risk.

Comparing apples to oranges by comparing the Jets situation to other teams. It is not the same.

I think there was a divide among Vrabel, Flores, Rex, etc. once Vrabel got picked up that's when attention steered to Glenn. McCarthy become available very late but it didn't matter because McCarthy would have kept Rodgers which was a huge No from Woody which is likely why he never got an interview. I'm sure Flores and Rex would have kept Rodgers to. Glenn was the lone guy who would do Woody's bidding so we ended up with him.

It all stems from Woody Johnson. His coaching search was not based on hiring the best coach, it was based on hiring the coach who would do what he wanted. Glenn was the yes man and knew what to say in the interview room. Also the way they sent Rodgers packing was clearly to get more liking from Woody Johnson. Fortunately for Rodgers he avoided this mess and is now on a team with a real head coach and is competing for the playoffs in late December, something the Jets lead by Woody Johnson haven't had basically since 2015.

Regardless the past can't be changed in terms of the Glenn hire but they can move forward by terminating him after the season ends. Bringing him back, especially if they draft a QB would be a horrible decision especially when we have seen quite a few head coaches get fired after drafting a rook QB within the season. (Bears, Titans, Giants all in the last two years fired their head coach during the season after drafting a QB).

First, if this Jets team were owned by a NORMAL person Saleh would have been fired and Vrabel brought in the year he sat out. Just saying…with a little assumption tied to it.

Speaking of Johnson and him hiring Glenn ONLY BECAUSE he would do his BIDDING when it came to Rodgers….. WHO does THAT SOUND LIKE??

JSMH at the entire shit show. I have faith in Johnson by a factor of -1,000% and am 100% CONVINCED we’ve seen the last of the 7/8 win seasons as long as that nasty Turd Burglar lives. Get used to 3/4/5 wins because that’s all this team will be sniffing for the foreseeable future.
