No he is not. Stafford and Maye are neck and neck leading the race by a fair margin.

I haven’t watched any college games so I only know what I read, but what I keep seeing is that this QB class is bad to mediocre…maybe one or two guys but even those guys have warts.

I want us all to remember these evaluations while we are actually seeing them play, because I’m sure, like every other year, once the season ends and the offseason workouts and the combine and the predraft hype kick in, a lot of these guys will be elevated. And that hardly ever works out.

So personally, I would prefer to see us either use our first top pick on a blue chip player at either WR or Edge, or trade down if the board doesn’t fall that way. We can then see if our second first round pick justifies a QB, but again, from what I’m hearing, I’m guessing it won’t, so go use it on a solid positional player…can be DT, CB, S, WR…any of those would make sense with the Colts’ pick which would be I’m assuming somewhere in the twenties.

Then, I would NOT waste any other pick on a so-called “developmental QB”…I can almost GUARANTEE he won’t pan out…regardless of if he’s a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rounder he won’t amount to anything. The overwhelming evidence and historical players at the QB position who are any good are all first rounders outside of a very few outliers (this year we can look at Hurts, Dak, and Purdy).

I would bet my house that we do NOT have the coaching staff capable of finding these later rounds needles in a haystack. It’s a delusional fantasy…a pipe dream. It’s that way for most of the NFL, but in the history of the Jets over 60 years, we’ve never done it. Never.

    Let’s not waste a pick.

I don’t want Fields on this team next year, so we’d need to go find a scrub…and I don’t know who that would be yet but there are usually like 2 or 3 of these types of guys…guys like Brissett, Winston, Flacco, etc…you know you’re not going to the playoffs with them, but at least they can play the position, because you’re also not going to the playoffs with a 3rd or 4th round rookie either.

More and more, it’s looking like the smart move will be to pass on a QB this draft and hope for a better draft pool in 2027.

I love everything about this but waiting on a QB is risky. If there is 3 or 4 guys and we aren't picking top 3 or 4 there is a good chance those teams need QBs and won't take picks to move back. Sounds brilliant on paper but it's a huge gamble. I personally think we are picking top 3 this year so I think if we have a shot at a Mendoza we take it. A tall pocket passer with accuracy and processing skills sounds refreshing to say the least. I don't watch college either so maybe he sucks lol but we have another 1st rounder so it doesn't sink the draft.
That said if there is a star pass rusher, WR, DT or WR at the beginning of the first I wouldn't be upset.

Ya not in tonight's game he's not, 4 picks, I wish the best for Sam, he got a poor shake here, but that can be said by most that have been drafted to this dumpster fire of a franchise

I can't comment because I'm not watching the game. Obviously not his best game statistically.

Don’t make dumb statements if you don’t watch the games.

Stafford is having a great year, I've always liked him.

No, no, no NO!!!!!! God damn it! If this kid isn't a top 10 pick in a NORMAL draft then NO! I'm sick and tired of drafting fools because it's the best of a shitty crop. And damn sure flippin' skippy a weak arm "shouldn't be drafted above 20!!! I don't give a shit if he is the ONLY QB in the draft. NO! Stop burning high picks on a Mother f'n PROJECTS!!!! HOW many more dudes are we going to burn through and waste valuable years? If the QB isn't as sure fire as it can get then no no no no noooooooooooo!

It might come down to where we draft. If we're in a position to take Mendoza without having to trade up, we take him. If not, we sit pat and take someone else. I'm not sure the front office will be comfortable punting on QB for another year though so if we're remotely in range to get him I could see us making a move to do so.

The 2027 QB class will probably be better but it's pretty risky to wait. So many things can change between now and then.

Agree that is risky to wait on a QB. If the Jets think Mendoza could be a Matty Ice or Goff, you have to try to get him. I would be OK to draft Mendoza, and see how he does in 2026. And if we think he is not very promising, JoshRosen him and try again in 2027. We just have to get QB right, we have to. And Mendoza might be that Goff/Ryan type guy I would welcome with open arms. Maybe even more athletic than these guys. However, Mendoza probably will go #1 or #2 overall. After we won a meaningless game against the Browns due to historical ST efforts, we are #5. Assuming this order, how do we get to Mendoza when Cleveland "lost" that game and as a result gained #3 pick ahead of us? We could try to trade up, but Cleveland can go from #3 to #1 with much fewer assets. Saints might need a QB too, and they are sitting ahead of us also.

In a one QB draft to get said QB is difficult if you do not have a top pick, which we no longer do. I hope somehow we find a way. If not, I would not draft other prospects in later rounds. These are almost 0 probability to hit. We will have to hope for 2027, but then again, what are the chances the pick will be high enough to draft top QBs? I do hope to win some games next year and as you said there is a lot risk involved. But I would do everything I can to get Mendoza in the upcoming draft.

    My passionate two cents.
No, no and more no. I really don’t want to piss away my top pick for a QB simply because he is the best in a weak class, meaning not really ready now and in any other year he might not sniff the first or even second round because is a development candidate with risk galore. I much rather give a second for Mat Jones and let Fields be a back up and roll. See what we have in Cook and build this team enough to where next year we can move up for a no kidding starter. Use the first two picks on a stud Edge/LB and WR and CB or safety in second round unless a QB with potential falls right and is liked by the powers to be.
Let’s build for strength with sure starters in 26, and grab our QB in 27, when the talent is better, and Fields and AR are of the books and we are cash rich. Use the money now to resign JJ and Hall.
Expecting this young staff to develop a rookie with many unknowns at QB has never been our strength. We couldn’t even fit a HOF apparently.

The question is though, is Mendoza good 1st round prosect (say top 10 or so) regardless of draft? I started watching some tape on him, still early watched last two games so far. Seems like a pretty exciting guy. Even the Penn State tape, where stats may not have been great, there was a lot of good there... A bit more mobile than I thought and arm strength is not elite, but he has some pop. Threw for 47 yards in the air against Penn State for a completion relatively effortlessly. Seems like a solid arm that will allow to make every necessary throw. So far I like what I see to invest a top pick on regardless of where it is, and if needed would throw in the second rounder as well we got from the Cowboys, though hopefully that won't be required.

I for sure don’t want to reach, and I’d be fine passing on a QB if none are worthy

However, assuming there will be pressure to take a QB, and if we do and he doesn’t show up, we do have 3 first rounders in the next draft that we could use on a QB regardless…would be a bit of a strange use of picks and some egg on our face, but we do have that option
