Well - I took a gamble. Washington was throwing a boatload of picks this year (36/40/44) plus 1st and 4th next year. Regardless of how good Kingsley is, I wasn't going to miss out on this kind of great train robbery. So - Kingsley was taken two spots above where I was, so I had to settle with Jordan Morgan. Other than that - Well. I guess I can say I am at least half satisfied. (2 1st next year. And Washington will suck. Mark my words.) ============================================================== 36. Picking the Bears is wild with how many great 2025 picks you can get just trading down out of #1 overall. I did one where I still had 5 picks in the top 100, and ended up with 5 1sts and 3 2nds in 25. Sent from my genius mind.

This was a nightmare draft. Both Alt and Fashanu went in the top 5, and Fuaga went #7. The only trade down offer was to move down to #23, which would have meant that the Jets probably would have missed on a potential starting plug and play starting RT except for Latham (and Alabama OL usually don't work out in the NFL) or Mims (and he's a project). Some people think Barton could play either OT position, so I suppose that I could have accepted the trade down offer and then taken Barton, but his 32 7/8" arms concern me as an OT. I think he will be a very good OG or C, but I'm much less confident in him as an OT. Odunze was still there, as was Bowers, and Jayden Daniels. Adding Odunze would be great, but then who is going to play RT? I opted to roll the dice with Latham. Even all the OGs and other WRs I like were gone by the 4th round. I sure hope the Jets' draft doesn't wind up like this! 10. JC Latham OT Alabama 72. Xavier Legette WR South Carolina 111. Tanor Bortolini OC Wisconsin 112. Tyler Davis DT Clemson

// It's interesting that Barton is generally looked upon as a Center/Guard by draft prognosticators due to his 32 7/8 inch arms. But Jordan Morgan, who also measured with 32 7/8 inch arms, is still mostly looked upon as a Tackle. I was very high on Morgan before the detail about his arm length was disclosed. The fact seems to be that tackles with less that 33 inch arms generally do not have good NFL careers these days. Draft analysts who do a deep dive on Morgan point out that his lack of length (and they mean arm/wingspan length since his height is 6'4 7/8") leaves him at a disadvantage against some rushers. For example, "Lack of length allows defenders to disengage from run blocks. . . . His size can show up in pass protection as well. Morgan simply doesn't have the length that other premier tackle prospects possess. He needs to speed up his dropbacks and cover more ground in his initial pass set. His footwork is sound but Morgan doesn't have the frame to make up for missteps." 2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Arizona OT Jordan Morgan - Steelers Depot It strikes me that, despite his best efforts, AVT (with 32 1/8" arms) has similar problems when the coaches stick him out at tackle. I believe that his short arms have contributed to his two major, season-ending injuries while playing tackle.
The only 2 players that I know that much about and like are Barton and Van Pran-Granger. Morgan could be a good LT, I just don't know much about him or his play. In a normal draft, acquiring 2 - 2nd round picks for the following season would be awesome, but it wouldn't help the Jets this season. I truly couldn't care less about future draft picks this year. The Jets need them now. Of course if they get some picks for next year, I won't complain, but I'd rather they get a 2nd round pick this year.
In general, I agree. I don't like or want OTs with shorter arms, but there are 2-3 in the NFL with arms that short who are very good. It's late and I'm tired and I can't think of their names at the moment, but it would be risky. I hadn't done any research into Morgan, so didn't realize that his arms were that short. I guess that's why he's seen as a 2nd round pick rather than a 1st round pick.

I decided to bolster the edge and LB department while at it. (Most likely because those I was targetting were either gone or a bit far below.) 4. I think I am pretty content with picks down to 120.
Most good starting tackles in the NFL have 34 inch plus arm length. Exceptionally athletic tackles with 33 inch arms can have great careers. I haven’t been able to find any good starting tackles with less than 33 inch arms. This seems to indicate that both Barton and Morgan will be converted to center/guard, like Skoronski was last year. For the Jets, it also suggests that shoe horning AVT into a tackle spot is taking a big risk for another injury.
This draft, along with signing a younger RT in FA could conceivably fix our OL for the forseeable future. Fautanu at LT or if the Jets sign Tyron Smith, at RT; AVT at LG, Tippman at C, Morgan at RG. Bortolini would be the backup C, and Amegadjie would be the swing OT. Or if the Jets had signed both an LT and a RT, Fautanu could back up LT and Amegadjie back up RT. In the 6th or 7th round they could draft a run-stuffing DT and a developmental S. 20. Troy Fautanu OT Washington 51. Jordan Morgan OT Arizona (move him to OG) 72. In this draft the best draft trade down offer I got was from the Rams. All of the top OT prospects were gone except for Mims and Guyton. By #52 all of the top OGs were gone. Similarly, by #72 all of the top WRs were gone. I felt fortunate to get Wilson, McCormick and Bortolini. 19. Amarius Mims OT Georgia 52. Patrick Paul OT Houston 72. If the NFL draft goes like this, the Jets aren't going anywhere this year. 10 OL gone in the 1st round and 5 in the 2nd round.
