FO has to decide are they going for the “win now” or “build from the draft”.

Both plans require free agents to be signed.

My vote is for them to build through the draft, roll the dice on a FQB, plug them holes. Keep on building for the future!

Alex Smith in 3 career starts at MetLife
    Record: 1-2
    Cmp 58
    Att 94
    Cmp Pct. 61.70%
    Yards 739
    TD's 4
    Int's 2
    Y/A 7.86
    Sck/Yds Lost 5 for 14 yds

Kirk Cousins in 5 career starts at MetLife
    Record: 1-4
    Cmp 115
    Att 213
    Cmp Pct. 53.99%
    Yards 1,135
    TD's 4
    Int's 9
    Y/A 5.33
    Sck/Yds Lost 10 for 61 yds

The facts is Alex Smith in his 3 career starts at MetLife has easily outplayed Kirk Cousins in his 5 career starts at MetLife. There goes that silly theory of Kirk Cousins being more suited to play at MetLife Stadium compared to Alex Smith.

Your point and playtowins point are moot. Weather conditions, players missing, short week, Time of the year. None of those were the same for both players so comparing them both to how they played at MetLife is asinine. You’re comparing apples to oranges.

My reason for Kirk is simple. Under Bowles, two career journeymen QBs have had career years. As a coach he has shown he can work with veteran QBs and get the best out of them. Don’t tell me that it was the system either because McCown and Fitz both had different OCs

I can understand the reasoning of some of you FA QB supporters for your guy, but I don't think it's going to happen. It seems every time Macc opens his mouth or there's an interview with an insider, we hear how Macc intends to rebuild the Jets "the right way, through the draft." Fitzpatrick was a fluke, thanks to Enemkpali, and McCown, was brought here to get the Jets to this draft. If Macc had any ideas of doing the FA route he could have done it last year and been one step ahead in his rebuild. Of course I admire your passion to fix the Jets this way, and I could be wrong, but don't think I am.

There were no free agent qbs like cousins last year. I think you are half right that mccown was here to get us to this offseason but there is no way I believe mac didn’t set up a war chest of cap space with out at least one eye on what was happening in Washington.

Except Cousins. He was a free agent last year.

For these FA QBs, it's Cousins or draft. I've said it before and it's unsettling to say, but I want them to take the QB they feel most confident in. If they love Josh Rosen and don't much like the others then they should move up to get him. If they believe in Baker Mayfield and think he will be there at 6, they should stay there. Hell if they love Lamar Jackson more than the others, take him at 6 then (doubtful, but who knows)

Do what it takes to get the QB they're most confident will become the franchise guy

He had the tag on him. Big difference than what is expected to happen this year

Wake up, the Jets are NOT getting Kirk Cousins...why would he come to the rebuilding the Jets? Nobody can answer that question without coming off like a dreamer and delusional.

Once you come back down to earth the BEST OPTIONS at QB this off-season BEFORE the DRAFT are without a doubt: Alex Smith, Nick Foles, or one of the Minnesota quarterbacks. If the Jets had the #1 overall pick or even the 2nd pick in this year's draft, then they wouldn't have to hedge their bets at QB as much in phase 1 of the off-season aka free agency.

Browns and Giants are most likely to stay put and draft Darnold and Rosen back-to-back. Colts may trade back but why trade up once Darnold and Rosen are gone? At that point you let the chips fall where they may and go bpa.

People who piss and moan about giving up a draft pick for Alex Smith, who is better than Kirk Cousins by the way, are absolutely hilarious. Think about all those 2nd round picks who are flourishing with the Jets. It's like saying, "Don't give me Alex Smith, give me Devin Smith." Fools!

Same reason every other FA in the history of FA signs with rebuilding teams... Money.

I’m not huge on signing Cousins although I’d understand the move if they did. Giving up a pick for a 34 yr old Alex Smith is by far the least appealing option and it’s not close. Guy couldn’t win with an uber talented Chiefs team but you expect him to win with a rebuilding Jets team?

Fact is Cousins has played horrible at MetLife Stadium. If he played greatly at MetLife I would have shown that, but he hasn't. You want to talk asinine? People who expect Kirk Cousins to come to the rebuilding Jets in FREE AGENCY. Everyone in the league knows Bowles and Mac are on the hot seat. Why come to the Jets? There is better situations out there for Kirk Cousins. If I was his agent, I would use the Jets to get a better contract on a better team with more stability.

So you think Cousins will not consider winning and how hot the seat is for the Jets current regime? Also other teams with better situations can offer him a lot of guaranteed money as well. Wake up!

As for Alex Smith he played like an MVP candidate in 2017 at 33 years old. You act like he's showing signs of father time catching up to him. He will EASILY ball like that for another 4 seasons, which is how old Eli Manning (37) is right now.

You think Alex Smith is a better option than Kirk Cousins and I’m the one who should wake up? Yeah ok..

I don’t pretend to know what is going through Cousins mind as he prepares for FA. I have no idea what he values most, no idea why you’re pretending to know. I do know the history of FA though and have seen countless players choose rebuilding teams.

I also don’t know that better teams can offer as much guaranteed than the Jets can. Who are these better options that can offer as much? Cause other than Jacksonville who may be interested all the other teams are in rebuilding situations and some don’t have nearly as much as Jets do.

Eli Manning hasn’t been effective in at least two seasons now, so using him as an example of what a 37 yr old Alex Smith can do does not help your case at all.

Alex Smith to the Jets for a high pick is such a bad idea I’m almost certain that’s what will happen.

Watching the games and looking at the stats, Alex Smith is clearly a better quarterback than Kirk Cousins. The only thing Cousins has on Smith is he is 3 years younger.

I would take 4 to 5 years of Alex Smith over the nothing special Kirk Cousins with a bloated Revis type contract. The team that is getting rid if Smith is the same team that signed Darrelle Revis this season. Pardon me if I question the Chiefs judgement. Lol

Actually Kirk is 4 years and I think almost 4 and a half years younger.

Remember when you were all for the Jets to make a run at the 37 year old Eli Manning during this coming off-season during that time period when McAdoo benched him for Geno? You compared it to getting Vinny. Now you are against getting Alex Smith. Lol, Westie.

So by your own figuring he likely has 6-8 productive seasons ahead of him and has been laying down numbers for three years running that no Jets QB in history has ever matched, let alone exceeded, he would cost no draft picks or players to acquire and there would be zero (0) development time needed. Day 1 he's the best QB the Jets will have fielded in decades, perhaps ever and your totally against that why again? This should be way down the list of things to be violently opposed to.

I like Alex Smith, wouldn't mind seeing him being the Jets QB at all, I'd love to see the Jets get one of the rookies and have it pan out and I certainly wouldn't mind going the Cousins route if he's willing to come here.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I can see somebody PREFERing other options but I don't know how any Jets fan at all could be completely 100% opposed to and against Kirk Cousins signing a contract with the Jets.

As a complete baseline that moves the franchise light years ahead of where it has been. As soon as that ink is dry you now have a completely adequate NFL quarterback. Now you can devote your entire energy to improving every other little thing on the team because job #1 is completely taken care of and taken care of for a long time. No runs no drips and no errors.

A lot if people are going to be butt hurt when Cousins signs with a team not named the Jets. I put it at 90% chance he doesn't sign with the Jets.

For the Jets offense I could live with Alex Smith, Nick Foles, or Teddy Bridgewater to go along with Jimmy Graham, Jarvis Landry, Saquon Barkley, and a center in rd 2. I'm not asking for much. :)
