Definitely needed a new thread for this. It has not been discussed ad nauseum in 10 other threads.

any guy who takes the gm job should do so only if he has full control, meaning he hires the head coach, and that person reports to him. the owner should let football people run the team. the salary cap is pegged to the team's share of tv money, so the owner is going to make a profit if they sell even half the tickets. doing what you have always done and hasn't worked is not the way forward. you would think even woody would stumble upon that line of reasoning eventually...

Mac inherited a team with bad cornerbacks, no quarterback, zero pass rush off the edge and a shaky offensive line.

3 years later, 20+ draft picks, millions upon millions spent in FA and this team has bad corners, no quarterback, no pass rushers and a shaky offensive line.

yeah, he should receive plenty of criticism

Now picture Mac coming back....he goes hog wild in free agency and has another mediocre draft to bad draft. The free agent moves don't pay off as they're expected to. No playoffs. Mac gets fired. Save me the agony. Just fire him now.

Believe it or not, I agree with most of this. However, you can spin this whichever way you choose, at least up until this point, the Jamal Adams pick is an excellent pick. It was a no brainer to make. By any standards (except yours however) Jamal Adams was a very good player in 2017 AND he's still on the rise.

The 2017 draft to me, showed me Mac was at least capable of grabbing talent for the team. The whole 2017 draft IMO is the first great draft the Jets have had since 2006. The 2nd round curse is over. Marcus Maye was a player that Mac scouted hard and he's turned out to be very good. Quite frankly, a little better than Adams. However, Adams has a lot more between the ears. He's already making the defensive calls. He also knows how to read what the offense is in and get the players into the right formation.

If not for guys like Jordan Jenkins and Brandon Shell the entire 2016 draft would be terrible just like you say?

No, I'm not going to pretend his drafting is great, it really isn't. But he seems to be on the right track now. I flatly disagree with your take on Jamal Adams. Besides, you will mysteriously shut up if Mac drafts someone like Baker Mayfield and the Jets end up with a top notch QB.................

Macc ain't gonna do nothing. Expecting him to all of sudden turn on the prospect train is a huge reach. In 3 years he has made the Jets worst. Oh and look at this quote."Every snap that he gets is a valuable snap for him for whenever he has that chance of getting in there (as the full-time starter)," Reid said. "Fortunately, we're in a situation where we can do that." That is from Andy Reid. The Cheifs are starting a rookie QB this week. We have a human turd who can't even get one snap after 3 years on a roster. A new world record. Thanks again Macc for nothing.

What about Dimario Davis and Bilal Powel? I could probably name quite a few more. Snacks didn't come on like gang busters at first but look at how he developed.

Davis had to go away to develop and Powell is not someone the Jets can depend on for a 16 game season. He's never played a whole season. He's like Forte 1 game played 2 games off with injuries. Remember Bowles let Davis walk also and probably will again this offseason.

Agreed about Powel not being a full time back but he still improved. Davis, thanks to the Jet's impatience and perhaps poor coaching, was booted out. Probably should have done the same with Petty - kick him off the team, let him play on another, then grab him when he becomes a free agent.

I expect Mac to draft Mayfield. Mayfield is a going to bust.

Why is that? Because the Jets have no chance of getting Rosen or Darnold leaving Mayfield (or maybe Allen/Rudolph) as the only remaining choice? Way to go out on a limb.

What if Mac traded down and picked Tanner Lee of Nebraska, "the best QB prospect" this year according to you?

I know more about QBs than Amatuer Mike does. I actually played the position. Mayfield is a total bust.

call me optimistic but i see lots of improvement each year

in 2015 we got williams which was kinda a no brainer, but many wanted us to pass since we had wilk and sheldon, now it looks like we'll only have williams left 3 years later so it makes it even better. mauldin has flashes of being a situational rusher but got injured prior to 2017 so next year will be a make or break season. the rest not so good So really 1 good starter 1 situational guy and some trash

in 2016 Lee looks good so far, he's made mistakes but i see him making tackles and flying into the backfield often and getting pressure. This season he has 10 TFL, 92 tackles and 3 sacks. plus he missed 1 game due to violating team rules. he could have had a 100 tackle year. still can with a big game sunday. Hack is unknown so can't judge. Jenkins is showing flashes. he was just a stud of last weeks game. He looks to be a solid OLB in the making all around. Burris is a decent depth CB, Shell has been out starting RT all year and played well. Lac has been a good punter and peake is unknown due to injury but could fail to make the team in 2018 Still i felt it was a good pick for the 7th round. You also can't forget robbie anderson who is a stud UDFA and proved to be a true number 1 WR this season. He will be the next colston or cruz as far as UDFA stud WR in the NFL. So my count is 5 solid starters or better and 2 unknowns

2017 really early to tell, but adams and maye both look great and should be a pillar of our defense for years to come. Legget looked good before the injury and should be our TE2 for 2018. good value in the 5th round. Maguire is a pure steal. should share the load in 2018 and looks great so far. stewart and hansen don't impress me yet but ti's too early to write them off. hansen has looked better though. The rest really haven't played much. So i'd say at minimum 2 solid starters, a good 3rd down back with starting potential, good looking TE, and some unknowns that could pan out

So yeah 2015 was a shit draft but 2017 and 2017 i feel he did very well. Also combo in the free agents, the cuts, the full rebuild going on and mac has done a stellar job in a short time rebuilding this team
