BTW - I am not hating on the Mariota support team, like I said - I wouldn't mind him here. If I'm developing Mariota: 1. Hiring a coaching staff that recognizes what he does great and I am incorporating all of his strengths into the playbook 2. Sitting him down for a minimum of 8 games. If the Jets do these two things, I am 100% on board with Mariota. Do I believe those 2 things will happen? Ehhh ... history says fuck no.
The best offense for a guy like Mariota to run for years is a spread hybrid, and only if he sits for the majority of a year learning it. That read option shit is not going to last in this league.
Maybe a new QB coach but I personally like MM as the OC. I would have no issues with him being in charge of Mariota's development.
I'm away from my computer right now but their's an article I read where the Oregon coach says MM can play in any offensive system because they incorporate a lot of different pro concepts including but not limited to the WCO. When I'm back at my cpu , I'll post.
When was the last time that Marty successfully mentored a young quarterback to success who hadn't been already successful?
It sucks we finally get a competent OC when we no longer have a young QB with potential that needs grooming. All signs point to him being let go along with Rex. With the Jets luck, when we get another potential franchise QB we'll have Schotty or Sporano 2.0 coaching him.

That is a completely fair question. He hasn't really by my count but I'd much rather retain MM as the OC and find me a new QB coach to the day to day mentoring.

Like I always say - draft is a crapshoot. It's like lottery ticket. So you want to get that ONE ticket? What assurance do you have, that he WILL be worth the trades and then some? [You don't.] And last draft is - I don't even know if I can call it a failure this early but, if you insist - the indictment of the scouting department, not the philosophy. [But you seem confused between the two. I am not surprised.] Joey Harrington had stellar career under MM's guidance, last time I checked. And he was overall #1 pick too.
It's funny reading how many ppl want Vick back next year with a rookie QB learning under him for a year or two. This is exactly what a few of us wanted to happen THIS year with Vick and Geno but were drowned out by fans (including MM) who wanted to see Geno 'progress'. Can't learn from the bench they said. Seems like a lot of folks are singing a different tune.

So essentially owners are paying GMs millions of dollars to play lotto. That's some profound shit. The type of profound shit I'm guessing a GM that is a poor evaluator of talent would say. In as polite a way as possible, he dismissed those concerns on the latest College Football 24/7 Podcast. "Marcus can run any system and any offense at any level," Helfrich said. "Our system is our system. There's always that label, 'He's a system guy.' Everybody is a system guy. "Our system has elements of a bunch, whether it's the West Coast offense, run-and-shoot, triple option, and our pro-style passing game. He can do all that stuff. So much of that is the ability to make great decisions, in rhythm, on time and be accurate with the ball and be tough. He's all those things." Helfrich noted that Mariota is essentially at the graduate level when it comes to knowing the team's offense, but one of the things that has held the entire team back is the youth at the skill positions around him. Indeed, six of the top 10 players on team in terms of all-purpose yardage are either a freshman or sophomore and first year players lead the squad in both rushing and receiving. Either way, the Ducks coach had nothing but glowing praise for the Heisman Trophy candidate and thinks he'll easily steal the show at the NFL Scouting Combine when he moves on from Eugene. "He's a competitive perfectionist. Every single thing he does, he wants to do great," Helfrich said. "He competes in period four just like he does in a BCS bowl game.
