http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...jace_amaro_i_know_the_whole_playbook_now.html “I just know the whole playbook now, and I know exactly what I need to do on every single play. It’s just a lot more relaxing out there. I can read the defense and I can see who I expect is going to guard me on a certain play. I feel a lot better about it. That’s probably the biggest thing. I know what I can do (physically) and what my game is. That’s all going to come along. The mental part about it and the playbook part about it is the biggest thing.” Amaro said he learned the playbook through “hours and hours of looking at the plays and memorizing them. It’s just one of those things where it just takes a lot of reps and just a lot of studying.” During offseason workouts, the Jets housed their rookies at a hotel near the team’s facility. Amaro spent about two hours every night studying his plays alone his room, “and going to bed with all of that stuff in my head,” he said. “It’s working out for me pretty well.” While studying, Amaro kept the television off. He put on relaxing music, like Coldplay or John Mayer. He opened the playbook in front of him, placed his hand or a piece of paper over the diagram of a play, and called out the play name, as if the Jets were huddling. Then he tested his memory, by saying where he needed to line up and run (or block) on this play. “It just took a lot of motivation,” he said. Other times, he would sit with rookie quarterback Tajh Boyd while they ate, either at the Jets’ cafeteria or at the rookies’ hotel. Boyd would call out a play and quiz Amaro on his assignment. Amaro would try to respond as quickly as he could. “He would just throw different plays out there,” Amaro said. Good to know he has made mental progress in memorizing the Playbook, with his physical ability he has the potential to be the X factor in our offense this year. Big fan of Amaro, glad we got him
Stephen Hill can drop passes that most WRs can't even get to! I want to like the guy- seems like a nice kid. I just wish he was better at football.
http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...Position/0460e22d-4b48-4a73-bc4b-ea32df5291ff Another short interview with Sanjay, Focus is on Kerley's growth and ability, Decker's "savyness" to get open and Hill's focus on health and contending for balls with his size / body ( yes please work on this a lot ). One thing I wasn't expecting was Sanjay saying Evans was so far behind. I think he'll take a little bit longer to catch on then some thought here.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...ohnson-doesnt-expect-to-be-part-of-time-share Chris Johnson doesn't seem to be putting too much stock in offseason talk of a time share in the New York Jets backfield this season. In a Tuesday phone conversation with Around The League, Johnson spoke confidently about being theJets' primary ball-carrier in 2014. "Once the season starts and once we're playing and I'm doing my thing, I'm pretty sure if I'm making plays they're going to want to keep handing the ball off to me," Johnson said. "If they want me to continue making plays, I'm pretty sure I can't do that if I'm on the sideline." Johnson's comments come one week after running backs coach Anthony Lynn said the Jets needed to be "strategic" in how they use Johnson, who enters his seventh season with 1,742 career carries. Johnson, 28, indicated an openness this spring to sharing the workload with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. On Tuesday, he sounded like a player who sincerely believed he'll remain a bell-cow back if theJets give him the opportunity to prove himself. "I want to do the best thing to help the team," said Johnson, who was doing promotional work with Mr. Clean during the World Cup match between the United States and Belgium. "That's coming out here and making big plays week after week after week. As for the time share and all that, it won't be an issue I'm pretty sure. "That's with any position on the field, if we have a receiver that's continuing to make play after play I'm pretty sure they're going to keep getting the ball," Johnson continued. (Offensive coordinator) Marty (Mornhinweg) is a smart guy, he knows how to put his players in the right position to make plays, so at the end of the day, if I continue to play like I've been playing, they're going to keep handing the ball off to me." Johnson said he was "pretty much cleared" by Dr. James Andrews during a recent visit to the orthopedist's Pensacola, Fla., office. Johnson -- who's coming off knee surgery -- was limited during theJets' offseason program and said he was unsure if the team planned to take precautions with him during training camp. We asked Johnson if he was 100 percent healthy. "I wouldn't label myself at 100 percent, but very close," he said. "In the 90s." CJ better keep his ass in order and be a team player.
Got a notification with this"Jets: Chris Johnson doesn't expect to be part of time share at RB -- 'Can't [make plays] if I'm on the sideline'" I thought, whoa this is a bit aggressive comment by CJ at the coaching staff in the offseason. Reading the full quote now, he thinks if he's making plays he will get the ball and if he doesn't get the ball he cannot make plays. I guess that's too long for a notification that will grab my interest, but the full story, as usual, makes a lot more sense
I rarely read the articles, usually just browse the headlines haha. I was 99% sure CJ was taken out of context though.
I love it. love it love it love it. Ivory/Powell have been officially put on notice. 'Good enough' last year won't be 'good enough' this year. There's a new sheriff in town. love it love it love it
Could you guys imagine if Hill actually develops into a solid #2? Decker/Hill/Kerley/Nelson/Amaro. Suddenly we have a very capable WR corps.
Lotsa off season speculation here, which is what it is. I'm very much on the fence about Hill. He's equally likely to go either way as far as I see it. By that I mean he's equally likely to improve enough to take the #2 slot or not. I tend to be unhappy about him more because he's at risk of being another high round bust, and not because of Nelson, who I think was serviceable last year, and probably would be again if Hill doesn't make it. Btw isn't Salas still on the roster?
I would too, except when I listen to them i tend to want to get blasted, which would not be conducive to learning a playbook.
The John Mayer Trio live album Try! is outstanding. Some shades of Stevie Ray Vaughn right there. The dude may be a douche but he is an accomplished blues guitarist. Coldplay, on the other hand, sucks. _
Who is this Los Lonely Boys of which you speak? I may have to do some listening tonite. JM's work on Who Did You Think I Was, Out of My Mind, Wait Until Tomorrow, Try and I Gotta Woman is pretty SRV for me. I get that some folks hate the dude, but he can play the blues. His cameo on the Chapelle show was pretty funny. _
